We had a misfire to begin with and the car would not idle properly. Auto Europe has it under control and I'm confident they will get the car tuned. When your dealing with an authorized Lotus dealer they have connections that others may not. This is why I'm sure they will get the car running properly before they hand me the keys.

I had a lot of extras added to the kit which slowed the process. One of the biggest hold ups was the 3 Morosso oil pans we went through. The goal was to take our time and learn from my car i.e, how everything fits / functions. We fabricated a heat shield for the rear clam near the turbo for added safety, added a gauge pod, dual boos controller - all this adds time.

I hope to have the car back this week

Well it seems like the big issue wasn't in the fabrication, but trying to get the PFC properly tuned. Which now is known not to work on the Elise. Unfortuantely since he was one of the first to attempted this mod, none of this information was known.

That seems to be the real issue, tuning, which is the most important part of the install. How long has Jay had one members car? I think it was dropped off 1/12/06, even with a complete kit it takes time to do it right.

Sir with all do respect you could not be more wrong. The fabrication IMHO, as well as many other opinions, felt this was some of the worst ever seen in the tuning industry. So bad infact that the kit had to be removed completely.

Decide for yourself...this is the quality oif their fabrication work after having my car for almost a year. This is just one of numerous serious problems

Apologies 1Fast, but just so I'm clear, who did this bench grinder job? I'm losing the flow in this thread...

Thank you Dave for reminding me to be more thorough on such an important issue. I have editied it for clarity. This work was done by Monkey Wrench Racing.

Hass Pro Turbo tried their best to fix what MWR had done but it was so bad it eventually became apparent that it was beyond reasonable economical repair and dangerous to the health of the car.

Yikes, that's not good!! This really surprises me, I have done buisness with Matt and I wouldn't have expect something like that. So is your Hass kit up and running?

Are we ever going to get to see ALL of the pictures of the complete Hass review of your car?

LOL, sure will. I have been working and not able to drive the car. Soon the whole truth of my turbo experience will be shared pics and all...form MRW to Hass

I can tell you there is a night and day difference in the torque delivery and power from the MWR and Hass version. Hass version is leaps and bounds better. What is even more amazing is the the MWR version was running 9-10psi and was only making what Hass's kit makes at 6psi. Oh and its nice to be able to drive my car within a a minutes time as opposed to 30 minutes like i got from MRW

Holy Crap

Looks like the issues we were having with tuning had everything to do with the E-manage internal pin connections. We had to change the arrangement per Jay's instructions and viola, holy crap my car runs!!

I will post a lot of pictures when I pick it up next week. But I drove it today and have some impressions and a few things to say:

1. Auto Europe, that is Don, Charles and Tom have been excellent to work with. You will see by my post (pictures) next week what a great job they did installing the kit. If anyone is in the Detroit area you must visit their service shop. The work they do on all European imports is second to none.

2. The kit. Overall I think Jay did a great job with this kit. The tuning issues I was having had everything to do with the internal guts of the E-manage and nothing to do with Jays other work. I don't know if this is something Jay forgot to do when he sent us the kit or not but it fixed the problem.

With that said, I would definitely recommend a heat shield for the rear clam. Auto Europe fabricated a heat shield and fastened it to the rear clam to prevent the clam from basically melting. This sounds funny but trust me, you need a heat shield. If you don't protect your clam from the radiant heat the turbo produces you will be asking for trouble. Regardless of the coating Jay put on the manifold and turbo, you need a heat shield. Also, I don't like the hose that is supplied between the intercooler and intake. It is an awkward fit and we are replacing this piece with a better one. We actaully blew the line of the intake severla times when driving the car. There isn't enough material to connect the metal pipe and rubber hose to the intake IMHO. I'll post our solution to this issue next week.

3. The car rocks! The turbo spools up instantly. I could barely detect any turbo lag. When I hit the second cam the transition was smooth, not what I expected. Very nice Jay. The car pulled hard at low RPM's. I can't wait to take it to the track May 17th!!

4. I have a dual stage boost control and will be running 4 and 7 PSI. I also added a gauge pod in the center console which houses a oil pressure and oil temperature gauge. The boost gauge is located in the A/C vent.

Pictures next week! This has been a long process but we took our time on purpose. The E-manage pin issue caused some delays but that is in the past now. The Morosso oil pan mess held us up for 3 weeks! Absurd for a $500.00oil pan.

By the way, I have a short shift kit in my car now too. Auto Europe has a better, more economical solution for us Elise owners compared to the B&M. This again shows their ingenuity and familiarity with the Elise. Thanks, Charles and Don!

Post questions, flame me if you want, I don't mind. I'll be picking up my turbo Elise next week after a nice bath and Aquamist reservoir install. The plastic bottle didn't work out very well.

But do you think we need a heat shield?

I got the shift kit also........it doesn't feel much different if you sit in the car & go through the motions....BUT !! when you drive it, it's a whole different story it's GREAT !! all shifting is done with your wrist.. very positive and much better than a stock shifter...... you can check with Don at autoeuropesales.com on pricing....

If they did it at the same time of the shifter recall, how do you know how much improvement is due to the new shifter and how much is due to the kit?
