B&M precision short shift kit

has anyone installed this item ? i know that new cars shift knobs were reinforced but this is not the only issue. this kit claims to shorten the gear changes.... if anyone has installed can he post his experience with it?> is it worth buying? how more precise are the gear changes ? from what i read it should be great but IS IT ?

It's not a difficult install. It does shorten the throws, but only slightly. I first put it in my '05 Elise, then later transfered it to my '07 Exige.

Yes.

I'd say about 25% more precise on the '05 and 10% on the '07. I also added the Sector111 Sumoball (or whatever they called it) that added some weight to the shift action.

It's nice. I'm glad I have it.

I don't think the B&M is sold any longer, at least by Sector111. Maybe direct?

The B&M is still on HRM's website, click here then on Track/Performance. I installed one a little over 2 years ago, and still very happy with it. I wrote some notes here.

agree with Mick. I had the spindly hex-shaft on my '05, so improved shifter feel was dramatic. I had to alter the fitment of the shifter tunnel slightly to accomodate the B&M.

Glad I did it. Just feels better, more accurate, more confident
Install is pretty easy, but the part about using a large punch and a heavy hammer is a bit disconcerting. Sure was glad when it did seat, about 1:00 in the morning.

not only all that, but it looks much better as I am hoping to make a custom gated shifter in the future a la ferrari & lambo.

I installed one before Lotus did the shifter recall and it was an improvement, but not dramatic. I wouldn't have done it if my car had the later shifter. The shifter throw really isn't noticeably shorter.

I made a little modification to the B&M that was suggested by someone here, forgot the thread, added 3 washers under the top cable attachment and got significant reduced throws, did have to do additional trimming of the leather boot plastic where it meets the center console. I really like the shifter.
