BOE Rev300tvs + Clutch Choice

Hello all. Ever since installing my Rev300 kit from BOE I've been sitting on a couple of upgrades. Namely, the clutch. I purchased the ACT HDSS and I'm about to have installed this month... However...

After reading komiko's thread about his experience with the ACT clutch, I'm not so sure anymore. He was saying how the ACT doesn't lend itself to feathering like you can with the stock. I don't track my car extensively so I'd still like it to be comfortably streetable. Someone was saying that an Exedy clutch is just as strong but is closer to stock in terms of feel and feathering?

Anyone able to make a recommendation?

Butters,

If you can wait 3 more months before deciding on your clutch I will be able to give you my opinion. Car goes to Dr. Phil for surgery in October. They will be performing the REV300 bypass and ACT HDSS clutch transplant! Will also have my arteries cleaned out with the total control oil pan so I don't have any blockage or coagulation/clotting issues on the street.

Sorry for the Dr. talk, my oldest is starting first year Pre-Med so I'm trying to be hip!

Butters -

you get used to it. You just adapt your driving style a tiny bit. I rev match on downshifts (helps to minimize tranny shock - stock tranny)and it's smooth as glass, on upshifts I want it in gear immediately, so it all works. Tons of people are streeting these things. If you are in stop & go alot it does get old. Other than that, it really is fine and has a very streetable feel. It's not like I get in my car everytime and mutter to myself " damn clutch - no - I mutter "can't wait to hook up this tranny with this power with this clutch!" That said, I would like to drive an Exedy just to compare. My car is track prepped i guess, but i drive it on the street only right now..I'd like to get to Australia and try Richard's car..Can you find a local car with the ACT to try?

Boy - you are in for a treat! But I think we are doing BOE a disservice by referring to PV as Dr. Phil. I hate that guy on TV.

True that. I deplore Dr. Phil. But BOE Phil is da man.

Komiko, I'd like to find a car locally with the act clutch but haven't stumbled across anyone with it installed. If anyone in the Seattle area has one, sound off!

3 months is a bit far away! But please do check back in with your thoughts on the Rev300 kit. I love mine.

cool - i love it when a plan comes together. BTW, I just got back from a drive, and getting going in 1rst really is no big deal, feathering probably is. I like it just fine. I think some of what is going on with my car is that it just feels so different than stock, that I'm still getting used to it. Between the shifter reinforcement plate, toe links, clutch, REV sc, sport insert on rear engine mount - night and day, and a big adjustment to the feel of managing the drivetrain and power.
And yes - Phil & Andrew are the man. Ummmm ...men.

I wish I lived closer to BOE. I would just ship or drive my car down there and have them install everything they've got on it. Literally.

Among a bunch of other non-BOE related goodies, I did:

Rev300 on a Used engine (saving my original for an eventual build)
Clam hinge
ACT clutch
Milled front uprights
SS caliper pistons
CL Pads
BOE Diffuser (and stock Exige wing and APR front splitter)

Oh MOMMA! Totally different car. Much harder to drive, but FAST, FAST, VERY FAST!

Doesn't take that long to get used to a very grabby clutch.

Just dump it, floorboard it and hang on

When I get some $$ a BOE blower is going on mine.

I can see in the near future if I do happen to pop my engine, it'll be a good excuse to do a K24 swap. !!!

This was my plan, but too late. Still i got a lot of stuff. In my case it was essentil that BOE did the install of BOE equipment/parts. It increases your odds of happiness the way i see it. Turns out that they have worked with BOE parts in the past, and are experienced with getting stuff to work properly. And nothing beats Phil dyno tuning your car in the shop.

Well, I went ahead and got the ACT clutch installed, along with the lightened flywheel. It is very different from stock and took a little bit to get used to. But after a week or so of driving it, it's totally fine. The friction point is a lot narrower now and it does require more throttle to get going (lightened flywheel), but the transfer of power is awesome and I'm not afraid of the clutch blowing up anymore.

butters, which flywheel? I'm tempted to not change my flywheel becuase i'm on hills and lazy on managing throttle on start-ups so it's the other thing i'm nervous about. On the clutch is it your feeling that it's more of a narrowed band that makes it harder to feather or that it just doesn't really feather? I drove a 350Z a while back and i was certainly shocked at how much tighter and narrower the clutch was. I had an Obviously it's something people get used to, but i'm often a person who opts for the devil you know...

However!!! i also really like the idea that down shifting (for someone like me who isn't very good at rev matching) would be less upsetting to the car with a lighter flywheel... hummmm.....

I've driven almost 200 miles on HDSS/fidanza combo and I'm not really liking it because basically no feathering and the chatter/grabbyness of the clutch.

But I do like how fast the car will jump off the line and how fast you can shift.

If you get stuck in traffic or drive somewhere with a lot of stops, be prepared to be annoyed beyond sh*t.

HOWEVER, i drove my friend's car last weekend. His car has 35000 miles on this combo and I can feather it. So maybe it will take many more miles for this feature to show itself.

ONE more thing. On decel do you guys have a noise coming from tranny or drive shaft? Sounds like a metal pipe or wheel spinning. I can't remember if my car had this sound before the clutch/fly install. My friend's car did NOT have any sound.
