I took it out for a 35 mile drive today. The car is noticeably quicker. the extra torque is greatly appreciated. the shifts come much faster now. I am looking forward to really pushing it some time soon when the break in is done.

Is there a break in? I thought you could just drive the car...

Fred and Charliex both recommended a short (100-200 mile) break-in period utilizing various throttle positions and presumably not using sustained high rpm's. I figured even if that is overly cautious, it was a relatively short time period, and why not be careful.

Glad to see you revised it. I actually ran into a local who had broken down in my work parking lot in his Elise. The alternator bracket broke but it wasn't a big deal and we got him on a flat bed back to the shop quickly. He said he loved the kit overall and I told him I knew you'd take care of it.

At 5000 rpm the car runs quite rough. I think it is kicking on and off the cam. Every other rpm setting has no problem. Can anyone confirm this is common. Just got to get use to going thru 5000 and not staying there. Also there is quite a bit of backfiring when letting off the throttle. Is this also normal or is there a way to lessen the poping.
Cheers........Phil |

I haven't noticed/experienced either of these things, although I don't know how much time I spend right at or around 5k--probably not that much. I haven't noticed roughness passing through that range, though.
No backfires at any time or under any conditions that I've noticed. |

I've been installed for two weeks now, and have had my ECU for a week. I've got 350 miles on my kit, and it's working awesome. I have the PES tune and did the install myself, clam-off.
I can run 4.5 second 0-60's with the car over and over without launching it hard (just a basic 3000 RPM normal clutch release). My only issue with it is the delay you get when you first get on it while the bypass valve closes. If that wasn't there, the kit would get a 100% from me. I'm going to try a much larger vacuum hose to the bypass valve and see if that helps, in case some of the delay is coming from a flow restriction. I have no popping, stumbling, backfiring, or any drivability issues at any RPM with my '07.

Charlie did my tune, and the engine runs smooth across the whole power band. The cam switches over at 5000 RPM now, and it is very smooth. I just have to say that the car has major giddy-up now. The best description would be that before S/C when I was WOT I was pulling the car....now after S/C on WOT the car is pushing me!

Had mine installed for a couple of weeks.
Took the car to the track the day after the job and wiped 5 sec off my previous times. The car performed flawlessly, effortlessly and smoothly. I have used a Sport 240 ECU. I am now in the process of fitting direct to port water injection to keep temps down. Also will be fitting a custom airbox, which on a NA car adds 8hp. Also fitting uprated valve springs (on Fred's advice). Also looking to obtain an ELM scan tool and GLM software (OBD 2007) which will allow download of live data from the ECU for further tweaking. I must also sing Fred's praises he has been great in promptly responding to my questions from the other side of the globe - not that I have had many questions because the kit has been flawless.

I've had mine installed for nearly a year. I only auto-x. The car runs fantastic. No MIL or CEL.
The only issue I have experienced is some vibration and noise when the bypass valve opens and closes. Anybody else experiencing this? Other than that, the cars runs very smoothly. I have nothing but high praise for Fred and the BWR team. He is very helpful and answers all my questions promptly. Highly recommend the kit. |

Just finished installing the kit with clam on myself - fairly straightforward.
Started her up last night and she fired up - idle was a little rough for around 30 secs but then evened out, no CELs or anything unusual from the engine area ![]() The only issue I have is that the idle is at 1k rpm, could be a very small vacuum leak. Haven't really driven the car apart from a 15 min drive casually to make sure all is well, i could tell that there is some special force waiting under that pedal ![]() |
