I am placing an order for a Spec Stage 3+ with their aluminum flywheel. Anyone have any experience with Spec? I met them at a VW Track Day at Barber and won a 40% off certificate so it seems like a good upgrade, I hate smelling the OEM clutch all the time.

Yes, I had one but didn't like the weight of the disc. It's a full pound heavier than stock. I sent it back and traded down for the 2+

That said, I still have the 2+ sitting here. I ended up using a Southbend clutch.

There were stories on the Celica forum about Spec clutches spitting out their springs from the disc. Someone sent me pics and I looked at the for a very long time. I found this out after i had traded down and just got the 2+. I asked Spec about this spring issue. They acted ignorrant about the problem at first. When it seemed that I had sufficient info about it and wasn't going to just quit with the questions, they seemed to admit there was a problem. I asked if the thickness of the metal holding the springs had been increased, they said basically that's what they did to fix the problem. I tried to get a little technical about the metal thickness to see if the guy was being truthful and the guy sort of claimed not to know any more. He did say he was the one that discovered the defect. My personal feeling is that the spring situation ok now. If you get the 3+ setup, the pressure plate is modified for the thickness of that disc only. So you cannot interchange with other discs. The setup should be streetable enough, although not like the oem one. It should handle much hp. Since I track the car, I didn't like the extra lb or more of inertia for the trans to deal with. PM me if you need any more info.

Been a few early demises of SPEC clutches on Spyderchat lately as well. I would stay away.
