I got a 1302 while on the track last month. Car was running smoothly at WOT then it coughed for a second, the light came on, and then it started running smoothly again. I cleared the code and have had no recurrence.

Car is basically stock with no snorkel and about 10k miles.

P1302 at 18K miles and change, occurred on the street after a couple of shifts at 8500rpm coming out of a toll booth. Had heard a ticking sound coming from the engine earlier in the day. Coil pack and plug replaced, did the same thing in the same manner the day I got it back from the dealer. It's back at the dealer now.

Edit: Forgot to mention that mine is a 2005.

Street, 2005, 10,000 miles.

1302 and 0303.

edit: I should also mentioned this happened at start up as the car warmed up for regular street driving.

P1302 on the track, last month (46000mi). Accompanied by flashing MIL, limp mode. Car ran fine after cool-down.

Now I get a P0420, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold from time to time -- plus I believe there are catalyst chunks rattling around in the muffler. Guess I'll be pulling that this weekend.

check carefully for cracking on the outlet side of the cat as it necks down to the 180.

2006MY

P1301 and P1302

Only under high load and rpm at the track. May be reproducible on the street but I've not pushed it that hard to find out.

First occurrence at about 9500 miles give or take.

Geezzzz, Carl, what have you started?

This could turn out to be as big an issue as the BMW engine bearing issue associated with the early run of 2000-2001 M3's. Anyone here remember that BMW M3 engine issue? Perhaps we need to do a detailed chart ala the M3 one created on Roadfly?

1302 (I believe), like xtn, is under load, and happened ~12000, on the street (never tracked) 2006 MY - Happening more frequently lately.

as has been mentioned elsewhere regarding this issue, there are a couple of things to check that can be a very useful guide to finding the problem. next service at the dealer, go back and talk to the tech, preferebly bringing a 12 pack of his favorite hops and barley dietary supplement, although just being a nice guy to deal with goes a LONG way with most techs i know, myself included. use the lotus scan to check some of the previously mentioned pid data and go from there based on other discussions here also. there are several things that can cause these codes, some simple, some not (xtn's car ). I will be the first to admit when i started looking into his car after multiple other techs had been stumped, i had no better answers than them, but it was a good learning experience and it blew away the common myth touted that all of these cars have the common problems/fixs well documented.
i dont want to pat me or chad on the back, as his car isnt fixed yet, but i hope that was a fat lady i heard warming up her vocal cords on friday

btw i was only teasing about the beer being necessary to get a tech to work, but the occasional offering of such will never be turned away and is ALWAYS GREALTLY APPRECIATED (beyond what words can express in some instances!) besides if he's a seasoned tech his liver will already be booze soaked by 10am anyway...

Jason, I'll be bringing a clutch and flywheel by there hopefully on Wednesday. I hope that schedule doesn't put you guys in the position of waiting on me. Oh, and I hope you guys treated yourself to the good stuff.

I've heard of cam problems on this forum before. I don't beat my car at all....in fact I am rather gentle with it. However, my warranty expires in a month and I want to know that this won't pop up in the future. How do we know that our cam isn't one of the defective ones that have sidelined a few Elise owners lately?

The valve cover removal looks pretty straight froward. What are the torque specs for the bolts when I replace it, and I assume there is an order the bolts need to be torqued down? Are there any instructions out there so I can grab a look?

ive always been a high life man, but its been quite some time since i had a guiness or fat tire, remnants of both are in my fridge ... you should see your car, im taking a pic of the parts explosion, it reminds me of a poster i had once where an artisit drew a guy working on his 60's vw beetle and he drew every single nut and bolt in the picture somwewhere to the exact quantity of an actual car, its the same scene!

your not keeping us from anything, theres a ton going on so whenever you get by is cool..

LUBRICANT?

i suspect that a BIG factor may be the brand/exact type of oil used in the offending engines.
read the threads on oil and ZDDP.
crane cams and others had some input on their problems with cam break-in as i recall.
