Question Fuel Economy in your Lotus Elise

I've been using a product in my Elise since August that increase my fuel economy. I never really got the mileage on the window sticker. I've gotten as little as 100 miles on a tank of gas on a regular basis (city driving). I'm curious to hear what types of MPG other non SC Elise owners get. I also noticed a decrease in my MPG after adding some mods to my car (exhaust, sport cat, added weight -audio stuff), so if you don't mind sharing if your car is stock or not, that'd be great. With this product I've seen as good as 45 mpg on the freeway. I'm averaging 27.5 mpg combined right now. I'm not really interested in the best mileage, but more of your average mileage. Feel free to post your best as long as you mark it as such. Also if you do primarily city, hwy, or combined please note it. Thanks.

Is this the same "product" that the company in your signature (forearthonline) sells??

Are you asking this question for personal reasons or for research for the company?

As a matter of fact it is. There are some other forums members using it that are seeing 15%-25% increase in fuel economy. I am asking for personal reasons cause I truly have no idea what other Elise owners get. I've always wondered if something was wrong with my car because I got such poor fuel economy. My Range Rover got better mileage. If I was doing research for the company I'd be interested in all cars and models, but this is purely for me.

Bovine Colostrum and gasoline conditioner? Really weird product mix. And - people actually take Bovine Colostrum? From exotic cars to Vodka to Bovine Colostrum - you sure move in some interesting circles.

I get somewhere around 30 with a cat-back exhaust and K&N filter.

If you're driving your Elise in the same fashion that you're driving your Range Rover, and the Rover gets better gas mileage, then yes, something must be VERY wrong with your Elise. period.

I have a bone-stock 06 Elise with ~30k miles. I have never had a tank outside 25-28 MPG. I do not yet track the car. 28 is nearly all 80MPH freeway, 25 is traffic commute/mountain road combination.

2005 Elise

On a highway, no slow traffic, windows up, top on or off, at 65 mph (true 65, not what the speedometer says) I get 34 mpg (tested multiple times). At 80 mph I get about 29 mpg.

My average is about 25 mpg, which includes city, twisty roads (which is my commute to work), and highway all mixed together.

Just because the additive may increase gas mileage doesn't mean it is good for your engine. For example, putting a lighter weight oil in your engine will increase gas mileage, but it leads to shorter engine life. (I know that this is a fuel, not oil, additive. I'm just making a point.) The additive company would also need to prove that it doesn't cause corrosive, build-up or other adverse problems in the engine. That means long term testing. Their website did not have any data on engine life testing. The consumers are the testers, but without controlled statistics being collected. Any problems encountered would be spread by word of mouth and hard to prove.

I get 30mpg, I've seen 27mpg in town though. Random parts have been removed from my car, nothing significant though.

I have to be honest and say I have never even tried to work out how much fuel I use in my Elise (and I try hard to avoid looking at the total I put in the LR3 too )

That said I am always interested in improvements to efficiency particularly with diesel engines. I am currently working on a project that when in production with use over a million litres of diesel per month - so even a small improvement in efficiency to that is big $$... but I have to admit to being a little skeptical as the value of any additive as none I have seen can ever justify the extravagant claims made on their behalf - perhaps this one is different???

I use Gas Cubby on the iPhone to track mpgs. I only started using it late last year.

06 Elise, no engine or intake mods, Larini exhaust.

Cumulative average since 12/08: 29.9 mpg over about 5500 miles
High: 32.7 mpg
Low: 25 mpg (old gas coupled with urban cycle)

On the cc trip I had an average of 30.4 mpg over 8125 miles.
High: 34.9 (UT to WY)
Low: 21.7 (canyon drive)

My average is in the 28-30 range if I exclude tanks used at the track.

Really? The only non-petroleum lubricant in the world? Wow!

My best highway drives, I have gotten just about 30mpg, running a little under 80mph. Seems consistant with what people are posting. Around town with the occassional 2nd cam burst, running between 24 and 26mpg. I think that is pretty good for a car that goes 0-60 in under 5 seconds. But then I am used to a '66 V8 Mustang and a Jeep Wrangler, 10 and 12mpg respectively. In comparisson, my MINI Cooper S does around 32 city with a light foot, and almost 42 Highway.

Combined city/highway-29mpg
Track-14mpg

And it's been consistent for 4 years +

If you got 100mpg on a tank of gas in San Francisco city driving, you're Steve McQueen.

Or someone siphoned your tank. The first additive I'd use is a locking gas cap.

Stock 2006 Elise with touring package. She has about 6000 miles on her.

She gets under 20 mpg for city driving. The most recent tankfuls have been half city and half highway - about 70 mph. 20 mpg for those tankfuls.

I'd love to get 200 miles on a tankful but that hasn't happened yet.

...likewise, mehve sees about 26 mpg driven enthusiastically but ranges as high as 32 mpg driven smoothly and conservatively...of course, track fuel economy is a completely different world - ask me about running her tank dry after six sessions, no, make that five and four-fifths...

...let me ask, XXX, do you make a point to stay on the high cam most of the time?..

I hear the opposite.
