High idle...

I'm new, I searched, I read the Uberpost but couldn't find any info...

Every time I start my Elise after it has been fully cooled down the engine would start up fine and idle at 1k. But after driving it for a few moments (engine warmed up at ~190F) it would start idling at 1.5-2k. If I stop the engine and start it up again it would go away.

Has anyone experienced this? or is it just Lotus personality?

IIRC the latest "C" reflash took care of some high idle, surging and searching issues. Some OBD-II readers can tell you under the vehicle information what flash is running (at least the Actron CP9180 does). There are other potential problems.

So your car is an '08 or later then.

Is your MAF dirty?

Actually no... It's a 2006. The previous owner must have had it flashed. I haven't checked the MAF but if it's dirty the problem wouldn't go away as I restart the engine right?

D is the latest rev for an NA car, C for an S.

i'd look at the butterfly too, see if its dirty maybe its being dislodged? does the problem occur if you never touch the throttle or drive it ?

I have not let it run sitting still long enough to know whether it happens... but right after it starts it idles perfectly at 1k. Occasionally I can apply a tiny bit of pressure (foot barley touching the paddle) and it'll fall back from 2k to 1k...

I'll check the MAP and butterfly soon.

for a cold start its under an entirely different control method, it needs 30 seconds for LEV3, then until it gets to temp before it switches to full feedback control.

I had something similar happen a few days ago. Engine was cold and when started it did the normal jump to about 1500-2000 RPM then settled down to about 1000 RPM. I may have touched the gas (I'm not sure) but the revs started to climb to about 1800 RPM and then cycled around a bit...back to 1000 then up to 1500, etc. I revved it some and let it warm a bit. I drove it about 1/4 mile but Idle was still high. I shut it down, cycled the door locks with the key FOB and the restart was normal. The rest of the ride was normal.
The same thing happened the next day after sitting overnight. Same cure with the restart.
Following day, the start was normal.
I’m open for suggestions.

My high idle was a result of wear between the butterfly and the TB causing the butterfly to hang up just off idle. If you can get it to idle high, try seating the butterfly with your finger (not sure how to do this on a DBW car). If it moves a hair and your idle goes to normal, it's likely the same problem.

I had the exact same problem on my 2005, and it was fixed under warranty. The Throttle Body had to be replaced. I had it get stuck as high as 4000 RPM.

Brought it to the dealer at the end and they "fixed" it with a "E" reflash. No more high idles... *yet*.
