Thumbs up Latest 111R dyno (Stage 2, Reverie Induction Kit, Komo-Tec exh. manifold & Sport Cat)

Hi all,

Following my latest thread about some performance upgrades I did on my 111R (Lotus Stage 2 exhaust and Reverie Induction Kit) here come my latest dyno plots. (Click here for the older dyno plots)

I recently fitted a Komo-Tec 4in1 exhaust manifold accompanied by a sport cat made specifically for our car.

As you can see the A/F ratio is between 14.3 and 13.2 across the operating revs. Seems to be OK, isn't it?

Here's the comparison with my latest dyno plot. As you can see, the torque is corrected and pretty much improved throughout the powerband, no matter that the exh. manifold is a 4in1 design with 48mm pipe diameter! Torque is above 18kgm from 2.750rpm to 6.000rpm, from where it goes up to 21.5kgm.

As for horsepower output, the maximum gain is 6PS, but also here there's no loss across the rev band, and the powercurve has been smoothed and filled with some more horses!

One could say possibly that the absolute gains are not that impressing, however if we consider the level of the first improvement, then the ceiling for NA tuning without getting in touch with the engine's internal "organs", has been reached and probably exhausted with this setup.

What counts for me most is the torque imrprovement that is visible on the road too, as well as the feeling of the engine pulling very hard all over the revs.

A video is on its way to be uploaded

Cheers,

Sure mate!

Here is comes!

Before fitting it, I used a DEi exhaust heat wrap to keep boot temperatures low, and possibly add some velocity to exhaust gases!

No prob, JD!

Manifold came at 799 euros, while the sport cat at 649 euros +shipment +fitting...

Who said that NA power comes out of engine bay easy and cheap????

I was worried that the 4in1 manifold would loose some power in lower revs, but fortunately, it seems to work pretty well all over...

Looks great. Especially the torque gains in the lower rpm range (under 4000 rpm) are very nice. Thanks for posting this!

Are you considering changes in engine management? With the scope of your modifications, custom tuning might be able to release even more power.

For me, NA tuning has ended at this stage. I'm very satisfied from what I got from the engine, and am not going to dig in it anymore, to get out just a few more horses at a very high premium, possibly loosing some mid-low torque! I believe that from this point and on, unless someone chooses to use an overstroke kit, the hp cost/benefit ratio will become less and less efficient.

Now, I'm looking forward to exploring the FI area (lite or overstroke, only time and final pricing will tell...) I've recently found a very helpful guy called Brett to show me the FI place around! Does anybody know this guy?

Once I'll have made up my mind, I'll only have to find a couple of mates to sell the very well kept Reverie induction box, exh. manifold and sport cat, and off I go for an Elise T.

I might be interested in taking the manifold, induction kit and cat off your hands if you're thinking about selling them. Your setup is very close to what I have been trying to get for my car minus the stage II. I'm glad to see that companies are starting to produce headers for the Toyota motor.

Theo,

This is great! Thanks for modding your car and posting your dynos. I still wish you had a dyno of your car completely stock. 26 HP is a big gain. I was planning on doing the same mods to my car, it will be interesting to see what I get. I don't doubt that we can still gain about 5-10 hp.

Nice dyno but i want to see one with the car in stock on the same dyno.
I don't think that is possible to gain +20hp only with air filter and some mods on exaust.
I see that the Stage II tested on the same dyno on 3 Elise/Exige before and after the installation had done the same hp...
If i can't see i can't believe

Something about that header pic makes me think of the Natasha Kinski photo with the snake. Yum.

So a 4-2-1 configuration would give additional power only in the high rpms?

As a broad general statement, on a four cylinder engine, Tri-Y headers (4-2-1) tends to enhance the power in the lower RPM range (more low end power). A 4-1 header tends to enhance the power in the higher RPM range.

Lots of variables and exceptions, and who knows what the second cams does to things.

Don't you think that getting these extra 5-10hp, would cost some pretty hefty money, and wouldn't add that much to the car's performance overall?

I bet you'd get this power at high rpms, while loosing some torque and power from the lower rpm band.
Possibly the difference would be visible on track, but on the road I believe that the current stage is almost at its best level...I managed to fill almost all the torque gaps below 6,000rpm, having more torque from 2,500-6,000rpm than the stock's peak torque, while experiencing a frenzy performance and noise across the rev band.

For now, I'll rest a bit from my tuning effort and will try to learn the car as much as I can. Driving it fast and safe is a kind of art for me who didn't have any mid-engine experience till my 37th year, but I believe that there's still a chance to teach some tricks to an old dog , no matter if these tricks are made in an Elise, which need the gas pedal to be use as if your right foot is a feather (especially know that the LSD is fitted, and the car tends to widen its cornering radius [NOT understeer!] if you don't use the right steering-gas combo )

Cheers,
