Maybe since I am mechanically challanged, they thought I needed 2.
I have 2 questions, that has nothing to do with hockey pucks.
My manual calls for 5W/40 motor oil. I went to a couple of places to get Mobil1, but both places said they have never heard of 5W/40. So is there a 5W/40 oil or do you use 5W/30?
Question number 2: I do not run on the track, although I sure floor it alot on the back roads. Since my car now has a s/c on it, do I still use the stock spark plugs that the manual calls for, or the cooler one I have read about on here?
Thanks. Rick

The manual recommends 1 heat range cooler. If you look around a bit you can find the 5w40 Mobil 1 it is for diesel engines. You want the 5w for the cold start crank bearing tolerance and the 40w for the valve train protection. if not you can use the Havoline synthetic.

Drove an Elise with the BWR SC kit today. I don't understand why everyone doesn't have one. I've booked my install and can't wait. If we can get an intercooler kit the car would be close to perfection. (Back to work Fred!)

Cheers......Phil

The schucks affiliate I went to try and find some colder spark plugs had the Mobil 1 in 5w/40. As fzust said, it is labeled for turbo diesels.

Also, I had to order the iridiums online because my local auto store didn't carry them. I guess since I have to wait for those now, I will also switch over to a green air filter. Fzust, there is no problem with desnorkling and running a green filter with this kit, right? I am at altitude, so maybe the extra airflow will help decrease my loss.

On the altitude loss, would it be ok to run a smaller pulley without a tune? Or is this something I should get all the aftermarket SC's in the area together for and do a group buy on flying Charlie out for high altitude smaller pulley tune?

Regarding the MAF, I found mine to look a little coated with a black film. Did you say that using an electronic terminal cleaner spray would not work to clean it? I used that on my boxster, when I unfortunately had one, to clean the MAF, and it seemed to work fine.

Sorry - long sloppy post.

What is the part number for the Denso Iridiums that are one step colder than oem?

Green filter is no problem, de-snorkle is no problem, but loses power(at least we proved it in our testing) Makes more noise however.

I would not recommend the smaller pulley with the same tune. Your gas at altitude is crappier to account for the thinner air!

Terminal cleaner may work, but I don't know if it will damage the thin film element.

I have a green filter and my snorkel is sitting on my workbench. How much less power with it missing?

Maybe the combination of the two (more air) disturbs the flow of air past the MAF, confusing the readings and the tune.

It would seem that the de-snorkle and the stockfilter would keep the airflow smoother and possibly not lose any power?

Was that combo tested, if not what's your theory Fred?

I must remember NOT to post when tired. OK, what I meant was that the greenfilter works great, no issues. When we took a de-snorkled car to the dyno, we saw that the power was off a bit(2-3hp max). Tony made a makeshift snorkle out of PVC and because we got some cooler air, we got the power back. Remember, this is on the dyno, not on the road, so you might not see the same losses on the road, I am just calling it as I see it.

I like the snorkle for 2 reasons: 1. I don't like the car loud when I am driving around(I have FrankenLotus car for that!) and because I think it helps reduce the amount of crap that makes it into the intake/filter. Because the intake is on the side right where the wheels are, it catches alot of junk. That said, your mileage may vary, some restrictions do apply, not valid in all 50 states....

I had the same problem, so be careful with your wiring. The alternator cable should not be too tight. The engine moved enough that it pulled/sheared the wires going into the alternator. I had to solder a wire into the plug and extend and redo the other wires. Take a look at the picture in the instruction manual again. I didn't route mine properly the first time and ended up on the side of the road. Luckily, only a half-mile from my house and with a friend available for a ride.

The shear didn't appear for a few hundred miles. You will know that this wire is an issue if you notice your lights dimming and maybe a flickering MIL due to the slight short that occurred before a full sever of the wire.

Check the routing of your alternator's wiring and make sure it's exaclty as the picture displays. I haven't had the wiring problem since the correction.

If your alternator harness wires ever break at the gray plug you can get new pig-tales and re-wire the plug. Toyota part, ~$6ea. The replacement pig-tales actually seem to be heavier than the orginals.
