Once dealers start selling the rumored S/C kit for the Federal Exige, I don't think it will be hard to get parts for the kit, unless dealers sign some agreement not to do it.

Yes you are missing the Lotus-Price –Effect

Lotus uses many parts you will also find in other cars.
In case you know that this or that item of your Elise is also used e.g. in a special VW- or a GM – model you better buy it there in case you need it one day. In most cases you will save more than 50 %.

Such listings we have in Europe and they will be very useful for you, too once the guaranty period has expired or in case you need something after an accident.

Well, who do you trust more, Lotus Engineering or internet message board posts? My personal hunch (and it's an admittedly uneducated one) is that a lot of wariness of FI with this engine could be attributed to people just running too much boost, trying to use levels similar to what has been done in other engines or just pushing until it breaks to see what can be done. Keep it a low boost system and it should be fine.

Remember, this car is a Lotus Motorsports product, not Lotus Cars. What kind of warranty is Lotus Motorsports providing?

I just got back from visiting the Lotus factory (March 2nd) in the snow. I met with Tony and he told me that their problem of offering a super charged car in the U.S. is the warranty issues. They can produce a super charged Exige in limited numbers ( Exiges are always limited even in a regular production model due to their production layout at the factory) beyond this limited run and he knows it will sell well in the U.S. but at the moment he doesn't want to offer it unless it can carry the same warranty as the normal model in the U.S. He said that the set up is a very reliable unit but offering a small production car with a such a warranty is a tough call for the manufacture. I did ask him about offering it with a limited warranty but he did not want to do that.
As for the super charger kit for our Elise, answer I got was not exactly NO but don't know. We talked about a lot of issues and I've got a very good idea about what they are thinking for the future of US market

Hi, Did Tony (Shute?) mention Lotus releasing the supercharger as a Kit for existing Exiges?

Thanks

Rich (in the UK)

two words... jtag port.

seriously though... i have yet to see a vehicle ecu that is protected against invasive reverse engineering. the worst i have seen is the manufacturer filling the entire casing with a conformal coating to keep others out. once you have access to the jtag port you can use boundary scan to read the entire flash which yields not only the mappings but the entire firmware as well... i can safely say that the elise ecu has an onboard bootloader which means that the entire ecu can be reflashed via the canbus once the software is understood, which bodes well for us hobbiests.
