Scott, I just got off the phone with Skyking. We had a good conversation with no problems between us. He's said if anyone has any questions to contact him directly and he will answer for himself.

P.S. Scotty, he said he never met you yet you told me on the phone you flew to California and met him. Interesting.

2) there were only 2 of the 4 bolts utilized to bolt the turbo on the manifold
3) He only drove the car two times with the Turbo, for about a total of 20 miles, and experienced some strange behavior from the car, and from the looks of the install He didn’t want to take any chances, so he sent it to his Lotus Friend ASAP. The tech took his time reviewing things, and he is not one to criticize others, but after he had gone through the car, he was shocked with how bad things really were.
4) He has asked Hass for a refund and has yet to hear from Jay

This is all true,

I did speak with Scotty and he has given an accurate account of our conversation.

I did also speak with Jay today and he has offered to refund me my money for the Turbo Kit. Jay told me that due to some personal issues he had to sub out most of the work on my car and he was sorry that the install was bad, he offered to assist me with the fix of the install, however I declined and he then offered to refund me most of the cost of the Turbo Kit if I returned it to him.

Something doesn't add up. So the first post says that the car was driven for 51 miles on the first day (and probably more later), and ran great. And now it was only driven for 20 miles, and never ran right? Which of the two posts (written/confirmed by the same person) is true?

Sky-King you did a huge disservice to the community by posting how happy you were with the install etc. when as you admit now the opposite was true! I wonder how many people were pushed over the edge by your write-up, ordered the kit and are now looking down the barrel of an expensive gun?

I've been through this all myself with the first installation of the infamous Joe McCarthy Honda kit. Fortunately I was open about it and he no longer operates in the UK market.

I guess it's down to ego preservation that people are happy to post their good experiences but rarely their bad ones...

Sitting back here reading all this stuff, it is clear there is no turbo installation out there I would consider sorted. The ForceFed conversion included which blew a number of engines, but was hushed up.

In saying that I believe both Hass and ForceFed - even McCarthy all meant well but now realise it's not as simple as bolting part A to part B.

As an early adopter I learnt my lesson, but my problems were minor in comparison to what I've read over the past year relating to turbo installations.

When I first drove the car after I received it, I was very happy with the power, the sound, etc, however after putting some miles on the car (under 50) I experienced some issues, I then put my car in the shop to have lots of other upgrades, shocks, sway bars, spoilers, etc, and have the turbo installation reviewed. My car has been in the shop for over 3 months, the person that has the car is very busy and my car is a low priority for him and me. This is not my daily driver and I am very busy with my business, so I don’t push for the car to get done, and the person that has my car is fantastic fabricator and lotus expert and is very busy, so I don’t push.

As far as doing the Lotus community a disservice? I don’t owe you or anyone anything!

I was the first to send my car to Hass and I paid for everything, all cost came out of my pocket, so I don’t owe anyone anything at all. I have posted my experiences because I have been asked, and I have done so as time permits, and quite frankly this is a low priority for me.

iwilson, I guess we should question everything we read on this forum, eh?

Sky-King, I see iWilson's point. It sounds like you're biting back - being defensive in your last post. The point is being made that if you weren't happy with the install then you should not have enthusiastically endorsed the product. When the "issues" surfaced almost immediately you could have posted a follow up message to Etalkers that you were working out some issues and for others to stand-by for more updates. It could have been done in a diplomatic manner so as not to blast Hass' business.

You may not owe anything to anyone, but you're credibility will be questioned now - especially after your answer in your latest posting.

No need to bite back.

have fun and be safe...

that's not true. this is a small community. we are all in this together. or at least all lotus people stick together. that's the way it has always been here.(Pre elise)

To be fair to Sky-King I'm now certain he got one of the bad Emanages and frankly the experience with that is it seems to drive great and then bad enough to piss you off and then it runs great again so it's really hard to tell if there is a problem with the kit or the car is just being "stupid". (Again, it's the reason I am being proactive and just recalling for anyone having even slight symptoms)

He did contact me and mentioned there are a few small issues he would like to iron out (Like the transporter mucking with the wiring to get to and jump the battery) and tweak the tune a bit (Again, I think it's the Emanage issue showing it's head) but he was over all happy with the kit.

What he wrote is exactly what he put forward to me so his posts have been consistent.

Thank you for the post Jay,

As I stated in my previous post,

I was very happy with my first impressions of the car, I have had lots of performance cars and done numerous modifications to them and I always review potential after first driving impressions, then the work begins in the sorting out of issues and improving drivability.

As I stated, I was impressed with the potential of the car, the power, sound, etc, I also new that there were kinks to work out as my car was the first completed.

I was concerned about some kinks in the kit, and had Neil of Sector 111 take my car for a few days so he could check out the Kit and let me know his impressions, it was at his suggestion that I have the install reviewed during the install of other mods on my car, Shocks, Sway Bar, Wing, etc.

As I stated the person I sent my car to is a pro, and very busy, he worked on the car as time permitted (about 90 days) and was very careful about criticizing anyone, however after a thorough review of my install, he made a detailed (with pictures) report to me and said that the install had several issues and the at car was not safe.

He had no problems with the kit itself, he said it seemed very basic, but very good; he just said the install was very poor! I made the decision not to post this because as I understood after talking with Jay, that this install was done with help outside of his shop and that he was no longer using this person to perform installations, he also said that he was not going to provide installations that he was just going to sell kits and offer help with the final tune, so I saw no need for concern with potential shabby installations at this point and saw no need for me to post anything negative. I would also like to state that when I talked with Jay about the install he offered to have me send my car to a person he know to rework the installation, however I declined because his person is 90 miles from me and I didn’t want to send the car that far away and I trust the person that now has my car 1000%.

People have stated that my response to some posts about my statements seem defensive, yes they are, because posts made are critical about how I have handled my experience, and I don’t appreciate it.

Both Scotty and Jay have posted that I am honorable and that I have acted very professional about this situation, so I guess I will let that speak for me from this point forward, good luck to all.

SkyKing has been nothing but honest an honorable in all my discussions with him. There is nothing more to be said here about it.
