Valve lash on worn cam lobes

Just replaced my worn cam and rockers and checked the valve lash.
It turned out that the lash was on the loose side of the spec (around 0,18mm or 0.0071 inch) on the cylinder that failed (#2).
The valve lash on all other cylinders was much tighter (around 0,1mm or 0.0039 inch).

Can this be the cause of the cam lobe wear?

Anybody else checked the valve lash after replacing the worn cam?

Just don't want this to happen again and I'm planning on tightening up the lash on that cylinder (intake side).

My valve lashes were still spot on after changing out the cam and rockers, but I wouldn't be afraid that you found the lash out of spec on that one valve even though it was the one with the failed cam lobe and rocker. It is not uncommon to have to readjust the lash with new parts and as long as you don't have any leakdown in that valve's cylinder you should be just fine.

I don't know if this is right or not, but it has been suggested that you want to run on the loose side of the spec range anyway. If I remember right somebody said having them on the tight end of the range might increase the chance of galling.

Does that sound right?

If you're racing, tight valve clearances can also lead to the valve not properly closing when the head gets hot.

Maybe it's not applicable to check the lash AFTER changing out the rockers, as it may have been completely different before.
Unfortunately I did not check the valve lash before changing out the rockers and the cam itself.

I guess I will just keep an eye on the cam wear by inspecting it once a year.
