Short story long, when i was 10 dad took me to a lotus dealership and talked to the guy and asked him if i could just sit in one because i loved esprits and had only seen them in magazines and played with the matchbox ones. The guy looked at my dad, looked at my slack jawed stunned ooogling face and said "why not, let me grab some keys"

he let me (at 10) sit in one, showed me how to start it up, showed me the engine, talked with me about the specs, and took me for a short ride. For a car sales man, to know full well dad couldn't afford to buy anything, and still spend a good hour or more making a kid smile was awesome.

That day my father was my hero! When i see a lotus it brings back memories and next year i will own my first Lotus.

I run my own independent used car business and last summer a lady walked in the showroom and asked if she could pay for me to take her son out in the elise i had at the time. Of course i said but she didn't call back. 12 months later she walked back in, by now i'd replaced the Elise with a new Exige S 240, we arranged for her 10 year old son to come down a few days later and i took him out for a 30 minute 'spirited' run on some very twisty roads. He loved every minute! I just hope he caught the 'Lotus bug' like the boy above! Please note i wouldn't take money from her but asked if she'd donate some to charity
