Sorry for my ignorance

what is a "FED" Elise

The product is on beta test in the UK

It is plug compatible and a direct swap for the original

It works on all S1 and S2 Elise models, S3 to follow.

It is posted here for feedback and comments

further info to follow

not available for sale yet , that would be against forum rules.

but would like any feedback while its in testing

FED = federalized, or constructed for import into the United States market.

The US models are Toyota not K series. The cluster is not interchangeable.

It is interchangeable

the test car is an S1 the most complex of all variants with direct sensors connected to dash,

Toyota cars are canbus which was covered in the first version

see desktop test operating both LCD and original cluster from the same canbus feed
there is no lag only software damping to soften movements

Looks great, interested if it will really work in the USA. Can the odometer be changed to reflect actual mileage or how will that part work?

Alec,

Wonderful work - have some questions though...

  1. What is the LCD screen size and what is the footprint for the entire module?
  2. Will it occupy the space taken by the existing analog cluster without modifications to the surrounding shrouds?
  3. Will holding down the stock (trip-reset) illumination button adjust the brightness level?
  4. How do you set the initial mileage?
  5. Is there another button to change gauge selections?
  6. Can you tweak the speedo correction factor to allow for different rear tire sizes?
  7. Folks that know me know that I have to ask "what does it weigh vs. stock?"

Likes:
  • I LOVE the stock bluish/white Stack appearance and it seems that you have the software damping just about perfect!! Kalman filter?
  • It was difficult to distinguish the digital Stack representation from the real thing while you were driving!
  • I would LOVE the initial LOTUS startup logo to appear when first switching on ignition... choice or green/yellow or black/silver please

Dislikes:
  • The 3d representation of the Elise with the doors/open closing is a bit fussy. Make sure you can disable it... I know if my doors are open!
  • I'm not a fan of the burnt orange color scheme... it looks like something is malfunctioning with the uneven illumination IMHO

Wish List:
  • The 2008+ white-on-black layout with dynamic color bands as you approached the rev-limiter (like you do with the "V" needle configuration)
  • The E46 BMW M3 dynamically changes it's redline as the engine warms up. Our ECU already limits the revs so you could match it on the gauges...

I have never been a digital dash guy EVER but this looks amazing!

Kudos!

Elise LCD dash

Here's something similar I did.. Installed a micro PC with multiple inputs and dash command. Pretty simple. Find a display, mini PC and use obd2 or convert canbus sensors to usb. I just used my stock stereo for the display output.

the odo starts from zero, but a preset value can be requested if needed to match the original.

...if that was your question.

  2. Will it occupy the space taken by the existing analog cluster without modifications to the surrounding shrouds?----no mods
  3. Will holding down the stock (trip-reset) illumination button adjust the brightness level?--no but thats a good idea , trip reset is now a multifuction switch, single press changes screens, long press on classic screen resets trip, long press on race screen enters the 3rd settings screen. currently the screen is dimmed when lights are on
and this brightness is preset in the 3rd settings screen
  4. How do you set the initial mileage? --zero or it can be pre programmed when built . so tell me the number and i will enter it in memeory
  5. Is there another button to change gauge selections?--no its the trip button
  6. Can you tweak the speedo correction factor to allow for different rear tire sizes?--- not yet but I will add that in the settings, nice one
  7. Folks that know me know that I have to ask "what does it weigh vs. stock?" ---it does weigh more its machined aluminum I will weigh it and compare

Dislikes:
  • The 3d representation of the Elise with the doors/open closing is a bit fussy. Make sure you can disable it... I know if my doors are open! -------very true it was an experiment and then i thought it would get very annoying seeing it every day, so I took it out
  • I'm not a fan of the burnt orange color scheme... it looks like something is malfunctioning with the uneven illumination IMHO
---ye its the cameras fault its more red

Wish List:
  • The 2008+ white-on-black layout with dynamic color bands as you approached the rev-limiter (like you do with the "V" needle configuration)---nice i do have those graphics in creation, but not with the dynamic redline
  • The E46 BMW M3 dynamically changes it's redline as the engine warms up. Our ECU already limits the revs so you could match it on the gauges... --- i sold one only last September to buy an Elise for a test car ,and that feature i loved and the way the shift light worked with it.

this i like, thanks for taking the time, I have answered next to your questions

excuse the rough finish on the enclosure its a development piece
pictures show the comparison between existing and LCD , same connector

and an extra connector for serial and USB
