Hello, after a few posts I've placed on here and listening to many suggestions, I'm hoping that maybe I've narrowed down my choices of what might making my Elise stall. I've done the following:
New Air Filter
New MAF
Cleaned Throttle Body
New Spark Plugs
New fuses A3 - A8
BG Fuel System Cleaner
Ensure battery is properly charged and bought tender
Checked for vacuum leaks, discovered none
Had a P0171 engine light on, cleared has not returned
Two important notes:
1 Only stalls at idle
2 Seems to have occurred after jump starting (battery died from being parked and using newly installed radio too much)
Leaning towards ECU messed up after the jump or Idle Air Controller since only occurs at idle.
Check the O2 sensors. You triggered a P0171, so the O2 sensors may be fouled or they are simply installed in the wrong order (yes, that creates stalling at idle). A brand new IAC won't do anything if the O2 data remains bad.
Is the idle stable before stalling or is it hunting? What exhaust (cat or decat)? Stock ECU map?
I wouldn't touch the ECU at this point, though you may need a remap to raise the idle if everything else checks out.
So, when this all began, it would always start up fine, but I noticed one day that it was low idling at a stop light, which was this summer and almost stalled, I had to press on the gas.
My son and I decided to look into it. We cleaned the throttle body, replaced the MAF, new air filter, new plugs and put all back together.
Seemed to run fine, a few days later I started it up and it stalled in the garage, which was really puzzling.
Fast forward to today…it is getting cooler here in Colorado and this morning when I started it to warm it up in the garage, it stalled 5 times…started fine…ran…stalled.
As far as hunting…after the car is warmed up for a while, the car will not hunt or stall 90% of the time…it like not a thing is wrong with it.
Randomly after coming to a stoplight, the idle will be sporadic, hunt and hover at about 600 RPMS, usually it will gain composer and get up to about 1k
Other times…idling fine and with no indication it’ll just stall…which really pisses me off.
It doesn’t stall while driving at highway speeds and it always easily starts back up.
I’m almost ready to surrender and take it to the Lotus dealer, which I am hesitant on doing.
Hey Phil, I'm not following you on the DBW? What ever part is attached to the throttle body I'd what I'm calling the IAC
