Make sure it's 'seated' properly (wiggle it a bit to make the velcro 'hooks' grab the other side well) and then it should be fine.

Pulling the plate off should take some considerable effort.

Mine never came off, even at 120mph.. Now using a 'not-so-legal' tiny sticker front 'plate' on my car though as I like it better:

For added security you could attach some nylon (fishing) wire to the plate and attach that to the car. So if it comes off it should still stay attached to the car.

Bye, Arno.

I hit today for the first time. It was an exit from my storage unit and it did not look very steep, but I heard the car hit on the street's surface.

Not too bad, but not great. Small chips about the size of a pencil eraser on both side.

So when can we buy those polycarbonate skid plates?

what if you made a thin alumainum strip and put a slight curve up on it and used velcro to attach it to the bottom of the front clam?

No effect there in terms of radiator rust or whatever..

This looks like you can repair the damage pretty easily. I've been running around in lowered street cars for years...if an area looks iffy, I don't even bother trying. So I completely avoid certain gas stations, for example. It helps a lot if you slow down and take things at an angle too. For driveways a bit of the sakrete or concrete patch can help a great deal where the driveway meets the road, or at the entrance to a garage. What you do is make a transition area. In my old house with a circular driveway, I could use only one of the sides for a lowered BMW. Once you learn a few habits it helps out a great deal.

BTW what is this scuff protector thing mentioned above? Any pics available?
SLOWLY in and out of driveways especially gas stations. Go sideway out of driveway!

So sorry you hurt your car again...

Welcome Dustin!

It's a great idea but it doesn't work for a few reasons.

Anything you put under there just adds to the possibility of damaging the clam further.

There are a few other threads (use Search) with some ideas but the car is just too darn low in front for some driveways. Underground parking? Nah...

Driving carefully is the best...

This thread is really very funny (4 years old), but here's my .02-

I just ordered a FF 1/2 CF splitter that should help prevent such incidents, no?

It prevents direct clam contact, but the splitter then becomes the victim. (Ask me how I know....)

Still, less expensive than fixing the clam.

Yeah it does... but if you thought you had scraping issues BEFORE the splitter... ugh. Now EVERY angle is a bad angle. However, it definitely can take more grinds than the car.

I didn't even notice the 2004 dates until I saw Randy's post about scraping for the "first time" and knew I must have entered a time warp.

Old thread, but still a problem even today.

I approached a driveway into a convience store yesterday and realized at the last moment that it was VERY steep...so I turned hard right and backed into the lot instead.

I still ended up with an extremely minor scrape...but I pale to think how bad it would have been straight on. The strange looks were worth it!
