Anyone know the details on this?

Disintegrated Lotus Elise - Carscoop

One of my buddy's emailed me the link from a 2007 accident. Unfortunately my wife saw it before I did. Does anyone know the details around the cause?

In brief
The driver IMO was pushed in to on coming traffic by a small pick up that didn’t check its mirrors. Fire department cut the driver out but he unfortunately did not make it to the hospital. Car did not disintegrate.

This accident was covered in here big time.

That is Jack's car from Texas. there is a whole thread about it. I never met him but I heard he was a hell of guy.

It should be said that there is no real proof that excessive speed was the cause of the accident. The speedo on the ground could have been set that way.

Be careful of what you view on the web...it is not always what it seems.

edit ....In response to the above post...read all the posts. I believe it said that Jack did make it to the hospital, but passed from blunt force trama to the heart.

That car was probably cut away by the jaws of life.

Thanks for the link to previous thread. My wife saw it and freaked out. I've got to go do some damage control.

It should not worry your wife. At least not with respect to an accident being Lotus specific. It can happen no matter what you drive:

Even in a Volvo:

The news (Statesman) reported:

Quote:
Man dies after 3-vehicle wreck

An Austin man died Thursday after the car he was driving collided with two pickups in western Travis County, a Texas Department of Public Safety official said.

Jack Griffith, 41, was traveling west at a high speed on FM 2244 between West Lake Hills and Bee Cave just after 1:30 p.m. when he lost control of his car and hit an eastbound GMC pickup driven by William Jackson, 42, of Austin, DPS communications operator Analisa Guerra said. Then the car collided with an eastbound Ford pickup driven by Cutberto Segura, 29, of Austin, Guerra said.

Griffith was taken to Brackenridge Hospital, where he died.

Jackson, Segura, and two passengers in the Ford — Oscar Anjeles, 24, and Armando Carrillo, 31 — were taken to St. David's Hospital, and all were in stable condition, Guerra said.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, Guerra said.

Compiled from staff and wire reports
and the deceased's sister wrote:

"Like many of you, we are questioning what really happened to cause the accident. When we get the police report we will share with you what we learn. Although in talking with the sheriff handling the case, he thinks that excessive speed caused him to "lose control" and go off the shoulder before coming back onto the road, lose control again, hit the first truck, spin around several times and then hit the second truck which caused him to end up in a ditch on the side of the road. When I asked what may have caused him to "lose control" the sheriff just said excessive speed. His girlfriend, Leslie, doesn't believe it was possible for him to be going the speed that the speedometer read because of the time of day and the level of traffic. I don't know if we will ever get the answers we want about what caused the accident. I sure hope we do though."
