In "Bizzaro-world": Would you have bought your Elise/Exige if it were FWD....

Spawned by our conversations (especially with the M100 owners) in this thread:
http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30746

Would you have purchased your Elise or Exige if it were front-wheel drive and all that entails/implies? Chances are it wouldnt look like it does today either...

I'm thinking many/most of us would not be driving these cars and instead keep our other RWD Lotus car(s) or drive something else entirely that was RWD or AWD.

Me? I would likely be in a late model NSX instead.

Nope I wouldn't drive lotus. But I wouldn't be driving a miata too, since it was based on the lotus elan philosophy.

Isn't the Miata a blatant rip-off of the RWD Elan though? I'd imagine your comment could be construed a bit differently if you had a Kia Elan in the garage.

That's my point. I wouldn't have bought the Exige or the miata if it were FWD. (Assuming that ALL lotus were FWD).

Not gong to comment 'bout the blatant rip-off part

FWD with a 63% rearward weight bias?
Surely you jest.

Nico:

I should've chosen more kindly words, but the Miata is (to me, and many) clearly a copy of the original Elans. Don't misread my jab as hatred for the Miata, I think it is truly one of the most underrated sportscars in America today.

I have spent significant seat time in a modified NA-chassis Miata and absolutely adore the car. It really is reminiscent of Lotus IMO, with regards to the "everything you need and nothing you don't" theme (although this has changed since the introduction of the NB models).

If the performance of the car were on par, this is a moot point. If it were FWD, it wouldn't be close to the same car, so no, I wouldn't buy it.

You're trolling. You were trolling on the Elan guys in the FWD thread, and you're trolling more here. You're probably all sh*ts and giggles over this thread and how it's pissing them off. Why not have the discussion in a mature fashion instead of taking pot shots at them? This may not be an m100 board, but I, for one, believe they deserve some respect on here.

To purposely troll and spite M100 owners is simply more effort than I care to exert. I can (and do) respect many things without actually liking them or more pointedly, purchasing and driving them.

This thread is merely a logical extension of my notion that FWD sportscars don't exist and even if they did they wouldn't be in demand.

Would have went for an MR2/MRS or possibly Porsche Cayman S if the Elise were FWD.

Well, in Bizzaro-world the Elise would be a front wheel drive, 5000lb SUV and I would have bought one to carry my 6 children to their jobs.

How about free speech? Why can't I ask a question in a forum?

Beyond that, who am I putting down? Which car am I putting down?

If anything you could say I don't prefer FWD, other than that I'd have to ask that you please explain your thoughts.

I'd be driving a GT3.

I've never owned a FWD - the AWD I bought this year is the first car I've ever owned that put power to the front wheels.

Bahahahahahaha!!!!! Now this is a scary picture. (Wasn't there a photoshopped picture of a Lotus Elise-hauler or something like that floating around?)

HA! Found your little poll........muhhahahahah..........

I'll bet that most wouldn't have bought the Elise if it launched as FWD. That's mostly because people have a hard time associating FWD with handling, performance and a "real" sportscar feel. Doesn't mean its true, just that people still feel this way. This is why the market had a hard time seeing the M100 as a true sportscar. Doesn't mean it wasn't. It was revolutionary. Just means people couldn't get used to the idea of the best handling car in the world at that time being FWD.

And no, I didn't vote...............but I could've
