Clam storage
Has anyone figured out an easy way to store the front and rear clams while working on the car? Please don't say clam hinge... I took my car completely apart last winter and had to work around these the entire time because they took up so much room!
I'm thinking like a wall rack or something to that effect... Sent from my iPhone using Autoguide.com App

So you have it standing up leaned up against something like that? I had mine sitting on some tires kind of floating... But it was seriously in the way!

My mechanic hangs them on the wall on what looks like a single tire hanger (2 prongs)

If he's open again soon, Sandy may have caused him problems. He hangs both front and rear clams, the rear with the back on top, and the front with the front on top, I think that the prongs are padded also, maybe with pipe insulation from Home Depot (that's a guess).

Just get a clam hinge...
Just kidding. When I was painting my Elise, I used my folding horse things that I use to paint stuff on. They have pool noodle type pads on them and the width is adjustable by little chain things. They worked great. I know it's hard to see, but this is the only picture I have to explain what I'm talking about.

I'm a big Jeep nerd and I know some people just put a small winch on their wall and a pulley on the ceiling so they can take their hardtops off without a hassle. It just hangs there... not sure how they keep it from spinning around. That'd probably work just as well for a clam.

I have a shorter ceiling and not a whole lot of room. I'm building a longer work bench and some shelving etc to try and gain more room.

Hanging them on the wall would be the best case scenario for me

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but that garage is asking for a garage majal make-over. there is so much open space and its clutter free at the moment.

I had the same problem last year with storing the clam in the garage... left little room to work and always afraid I would end up breaking it somehow. Decided to just bring it in the house this year. This was somewhat risky though as well. We had to get it through three doorways to finally get it in the room... I think the girlfriend was more nervous than me.
