Talking Club111 First Annual ELISES AT DEALS GAP! October 19-20-21- 2005

Ok dokie folks, here it is. Club111 presents Elises at the Dragon OCTOBER 19th, 20th, 21st 2005.

The date is Oct 19-21. October because its a lovely month and quite pretty at the GAP. 19-21 because mid week days are best at the GAP due to greatly reduced traffic flow. Wed, Thursday, will be great days due to lack of traffic and Friday wont be bad either. Of course you can stay longer into the weekend if you want, or just use the weekend to drive back home.

WHAT IS THE GAP?
Simply put, the gap is 311 curves in 11 miles! Its also known as "tail of the dragon". Car enthusiast come to the GAP from all over the world. THE GAP ROCKS! Ask Randy or anyone who has been there! I know there are folks who drive from all over the US from coast to coast to drive the GAP, and those who havent been there before you WONT be disappointed. Its a beautiful area of the US. Even if you didn't like cars or driving its rich with scenery, wildlife, kayaking, white water, mountain biking etc. Its just a really nice place. I'd be willing to bet anyone who attends will NOT forget the GAP and will want to come back again, and again and again.

For Details on what Deals Gap is check out, www.tailofthedragon.com
.

LODGING
You NEED to make your room reservations NOW.
Today I called the TOPOCO Lodge and spoke with the Inn Keeper. He stated that he can block off rooms for us if need be but that we'll need to get on that soon because the dates OCTOBER 19, 20, 21 are during peak "leaf" season. WHAT THIS MEANS IS if you want to be at the GAP you'll need to make your reservations NOW. You can cancel them up to 14 days before the event. He said they're looking forward to having us!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
I will try and plan some fun events for everyone. So far I have a midnight dragon slayer run planned for thursday night. Also we'll be having a meet and greet dinner on the first night so we can all get to know each other and also enjoy some FREE SWAG from our most awesome elisetalk vendors like Blackwatch Racing and Sector111!

ARE YOU COMING? !
Let us know ( make a post in this thread) if you're coming so we can plan accordingly!! Also remember to make your room reservations NOW. I know its months away but the GAP is popular! Call the TOPOCO lodge and make your reservations now. Let them know you're with the LOTUS ELISE GROUP. It's important that you make your plans now.

If you have ANY questions please let me know and please sign up only if you know you can make it so we can start making preparations! My email is OneFastMiata@insightbb.com

No the rolling roadblocks at the GAP usually involve a fat man on a harley doing 18mph in the turns.

Its going to be a great event! YOU WILL LOVE IT, I guarantee.

Nope, not gonna post on Tailofthedragon.com for just that reason.

Also remember you guys need to go ahead and call TOPOCO lodge and make your room reservations accordingly. You can cancel as close as 14 days before the event so its best to go ahead and make reservations.

Also for those who havent been,

Topoco lodge offers room prices that include your meals. You might be thinking, "why the hell would I want to purchase my meals with my room?". Well the Deals Gap area isn't very populated so other than Topoco your choices for food are limited. There is a new cafe at the deals gap gas station that serves fried foods, burgers, dogs, fries etc, but other than that you're kind of on your own food wise. Topoco has "ok" food. Its not mind numbing by any means, but its ok.

The area truly is lovely and the Topoco lodge has great scenery. Here's a pic from about 10 feet away from the entrance to the TOPOCO lodge. Its called "fugitive dam" and it was featured in the Harrison Ford movie "The Fugitive" where he jumps off the top of it to get away from Tommy Lee Jones.

The main lodge is a brick building. There are small cabins built into the side of the mountain that are also available for rent. I took this picture standing up near some of the small hillside cabins looking down on the main lodge parking lot.

I should be booked up....

FYI, the guy at the desk said they only have 10 more rooms for those nights left. I got a cabin, so I have my own bathroom.

Yes, Ive blocked off the rooms on my credit card so its my arse on the line now

As Ive stressed, you NEED to call in your reservations for the Lotus Elise group. Tell the Inn Keeper you're with CLUB 111 We have TEN rooms at the moment, all are traditional rooms.

Note the lodge DOES have 11 more "spaces" available but they're dormitory style rooms.

If you dont get a room at TOPOCO you'll have to stay at Fontana Lodge or somewhere in the surrounding area. TOPOCO will be the main "hub" for the Elise group so it will be the most convenient place to say.

If you do drag your feet and dont get a room at Topoco you can try Fontana Lodge,

Booked a Room

I called and took one of the rooms Jen had reserved. Look forward to seeing you there. Let me know as time nears if you need help coming up with a expanded activity agenda. It might be fun to add white water rafting, hiking, etc. to the times for driving. Let me know how I can help.

For all you Socal'ers - consider making the trip...

The Dragon is not to be missed with Elise... Make it a point to hit the Blue Ridge parkway on the way there too. You'll be glad you did.

Not sure I understand the bathroom comment. I was told the rooms Jen reserved do have their own private bathroom.

I am pretty sure that anything in the main lodge is a shared bathroom per floor. I definitely know that is the case on the top floor. I think there are only 3 or 4 rooms per floor, though.

According to the web site, only the 3rd floor economy lodge rooms have a shared bathroom. I specifically asked if our rooms had private baths and was told yes. These must be the regular lodge rooms.

I stand corrected, then.
