Count your blessings

Saturday afternoon I interviewed 8 individuals for our Office Manager position at one of our facilities. Some of the applicants had jobs and others were without. As I drove my Exige in the Boston Mountains today and started thinking about the interviews, the thought came to me that I am one truely lucky individual to have a good job, family, and the privilege of driving such an incredible piece of machinery. There are a lot of people out there who are in pretty difficult situations right now and I feel blessed. Just my thought today.

I usually am aware of my luck while driving my Elise.
That´s the moment where I realized I have everything I wished for.

I also have the chance to work in a business where we profit from the crisis.
Don´t get me wrong, I am a good man and my job is morally safe.
I work for discounters and guess where people go buy their stuff when the times get tough?
Still... If I don´t feel the crisis directly I do feel it throught my friends, especially the ones working in the car industry: a few of them got fired with their whole departments this year, and some in other areas really feel the pressure.

I hear you, but when the job becomes something less desired and you find you are stuck without any chance of escape, it drags you down and you find it difficult to appreciate that you have a job.

Yes I second the thought.

There is one more thing I have learned. I have had the unfortunete time of losing a sister and a few best friends to cancer. It is so quickly they are erased from all but the memories of those that loved them.

Combine that with the 2 times I have been told to get my affairs in order...say goodbyes to my family and given a certain amount of time to live. One of those times it was a matter of hours.

When THEY tell you that, it is amazing how unimportant EVERYTHING else becomes..and how quickly. I remember EXACTLY how it feels.

When I start to feel down...or wonder what the heck is going on.....I think of those times and those people no longer with me and no matter how bad it is, I feel I am pretty lucky to be where I am at the moment in time. Many of the times when I smile and think all is right with the world and when I think it does not get any better than this....I am in my Seven or my Elise on a Sunday morning going to a LOONY breakfast. My son is behind me in one of the other Lotus cars and the sun is shining....

It is a bitch to get old and to realize you have more years behind than ahead, but the alternative really stinks.

Who's old?

It is a bitch to get old. But as long as you can crawl in and out of an Elise, you are not old.

Not Old....but to realize you have more behind you than in front of you. I would like to think I will be driving my Seven and Elise 30 years from now...but I doubt....dont see too many people in their 80's hopping into Sevens and Elises.
