Dec Automobile Magazine Exige S 260 Sport Review

See p. 63 of the December 2009 Automobile magazine (Vol. 24 No. 9) for a review of the Exige S 260 Sport. It seems that there are 20 weight saving parts that have been exchanged to shed 50 pounds vs the S 240.

Same article posted a 5 second 0-60 time with the car.

Reviewers were getting faster times 5 years ago with the n/a Elise.

i read it last week and forgot to post it. i really wasn't impressed with the article as they kinda bash it, i got the impression that the writer doesn't get lotus'. the performance spec left a lot to be desired also 0-60 5sec

lotusforsale already beat me too it

I didn't think the article was negative. Of course the 0-60 time made no sense.

Agreed. Our cars, all of them, are considered by most magazines now as 'partial' cars. They simply point out the truth...if you want sporting virtues with day to day comfort, this isn't the car.

If you want a go-cart for the street, Lotus is it.

One magazine recently did an article on the 10 Best Drivers cars, declaring the new Cayman the winner. The Miata was # 3, as I recall. Actually tested the porky Camaro as being in the top 10.

Didn't mention any Lotus at all. The reason was the criteria...they specifically said it wasn't about the best handling car, it was about the best car for the overall driver experience. Next year such an article could very well include the Evora.

Simply pointing out that our cars ride rough, have few amenities, are noisey, and rattle a lot isn't being negative. They also point out that what it does well, it does very well.

Except, apparently, sprinting to 60.

Extreme minimalism, extreme purpose, extreme performance but other cars offer better performance and are not insanely priced.

Hmm...

"Unsurprisingly, the wizards of weight loss found fat to cut by exchanging more than twenty parts, resulting in a roughly fifty-pound weight savings over the Exige S 240."

"Mass has been trimmed with extensive carbon fiber and lightweight items for the wheels, intercooler plumbing, battery, and floor mats."

You forgot "extreme smile"

Something those other cars don't deliver regardless of price or performance.

It's funny, my other rides include a 1971 Land Rover and a 1970 Mini. Both are more minimalist than the Elise, but they all have the same thing in common. They all deliver big smiles. They all make me glad, and lucky enough, to have them whenever I drive them. And that's, as they say, priceless.
