Does owning an Elise and a beater get old?

I was curious as to how many people that own an Elise use it as an only car or have a cheap (nothing special or exciting) car to drive for chores and if it's really that much of an inconvenience to have two cars to accommodate.

To answer you're question - NO!

You can buy something interesting as a beater - doesn't have to be a civic. I have an old (2000) Jag that I got for less than $9K and love it!

..........not as much as I love the Elise though!

As long as you have the parking space, there is no end to the number of cars you can own. I think it's good to have a different type of car for different needs. That being said, I must have a lot of driving needs.

I want to keep my g-wagen for many years to come so i needed another car to save on gas and to split my 20k miles per year... so the elise makes a great daily driver/beater. What's not to love about owning your 2 favorite cars? Granted it's hard being inconspicuous, but it also teaches humility... because if you flip someone off or treat them badly, they'll remember your car...

having 2 cars to accomodate REALLY depends on your parking situation. I really like having 2 cars because if ones in the shop, or if i'm working on one, i can just drive the other, and then i can also pick the car which better suites the task at hand.

whether it can serve as an only car depend on the weather i think. if i were in a part of the country where it rained a lot and often, or snowed regularly, i'd be hard pressed to have it as an only car. In much of california, it could do just fine as an only car... you can always rent a truck/van/suv and when you need it for odd tasks if your life doesn't need one regularly.

I actually find myself flipping people off a lot more, especially when I have the top off.

+2 I told my wife a long time back that every family needed 4 vehicles - an SUV, a sedan, a sports car, and a motorcycle. This arrangement makes a lot of sense to me, but I haven't yet had both a sports car and a motorcycle at the same time. That said, having the sports car now and motorcycles being relatively cheap, puts me in a advantageous position for a clean sweap

My beater is a 1993 Geo Prizm. It was my mother's car and I inherited it.

I use the Elise as a daily driver, except when it won't do the job. For example, I go food shopping in the Geo Prizm. Otherwise, I take the Elise. Snow, too, calls for the Geo Prizm.

I bought a microwave oven and took it home in the Elise. That was a PITA! The microwave in the passenger's seat had to be balanced with a few towels underneath and it still kept trying to occupy the space where I was.

I liked the Geo Prizm (automatic) until I got the Elise. I go on the highway, push down on the accelerator and then, nothing. It gets a little pep when the accelerator is pushed all the way down - it downshifts.

The only disadvantage is the cost of insurance. I'm paying about 50% more than I would if I were only insuring the Elise.

I also inherited my mom's car. A sweet '88 Celebrity. The dichotomy is huge. In the summer I'm a rock star, in the winter I'm anonymous. I like both cars for what they are.

The best part of storing the Elise for the winter is the feeling of getting a new car every spring.

I have a TL that I daily.

I would look into a daily but don't bother getting something super cheap IMO. I started with a 91 Accord but realized I spent 90% of driving in that car! Ended up selling that after 8 months and buying a 99 TL. Much better!

^^^ The truth for most of us riders out here in Lotusland

I do have other cars available, but I actually brought my new Pitbull rearstand home in the Lotus. Thankfully it was fully bubble-wrapped--it actually fit without too much drama on the passenger side. :P
