DOT date code - LotusTalk

I know that the last 4 digits of the DOT number printed on the sidewall of each tire is the date of manufacture (week # followed by the year). Two of my Yoko 048s have this. Two of them have just 4 letters/digits following DOT and then there is a series of vertical lines that look like a bar code where there should be more numbers.

So what appears on two of the tires is: DOT XXXX XXX1234. This is what I thought was on every tire. The other two tires have: DOT XXXX [vertical lines].

Can anyone explain this?

On my tires, the date code (2 digit week; 2 digit year) is embossed on only one side of the sidewall. Try looking at the other side of your tires.

Yeah. That's it. Pretty obvious when you say it out loud like that. Looking on the inside sidewall should have occurred to me.
