Dumb Question Of The Day.....Opening Elise Trunk WITH the Key?

Okay, just got my new to me 2008 Lotus Elise SC. The manuals and extra key are being shipped so I can't reference that.

I searched with google and the site search engine....and couldn't find the answer to this question.

How do you open the rear engine cover/boot lid WITH the key?

Do I have to press one of the 3 key fob buttons first, or in a certain order or what? Just turning the key results in a click noise, but it doesn't unlock. It feels like a short throw, like something is keeping it from turning all the way?

When I searched, all I found was what to do if you don't have the key, or if you lock the key/fob in the trunk. I read through 5 threads. I tried the rubber spatula and prying with a towel against the body and a large flathead.....people said they could get their hands in to pull the emergency release lever, but I didn't get it high enough to even slide a coat hanger in and I don't know where the release is even located having never opened the lid myself (dealer opened it when I test drove on Monday and packed the soft top in the boot before shipment). Not to mention I was afraid of screwing something up.

I couldn't even check the oil/coolant levels before driving it and I'd really like to do an oil change at this point, but can't open the stupid deck lid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sean

Okay, if you don't have to push any buttons, I've got something wrong with the lock.

Which way is the lock supposed to turn to unlock. Mine turns about a 1/8 turn counter clockwise and makes a click sound. It won't turn clockwise much at all. A thread I just read said to unlock it should turn clockwise??

Apparently, you have to be smarter than what you're working with.....which is why my wife ended up opening it...not me.

I pushed down on the lid while my wife turned the key.

FYI....the key turns CLOCKWISE to open. It doesn't turn much....not even an 1/8 of a turn. And, you'd think turning the key would actuate the latch but what moves is the pull tab/T handle cable.

Anyway....The dealer put the soft top in the boot before shipment and a piece of it was sticking up above the "bone" (rod that holds up the deck lid). I'm guessing this was what was causing it to stick. Once I put a good amount of downforce on the lid, the lock must've been able to release.

Thanks for the help.

You just need the right trick.

Here you were opening the trunk at your first post:

But, at your last post, you finally got it right:
