IMO-

Sell your Lotus for no less than $28,000. Ever.

The Cobra/Viper boys have all decided to sell their cars with $50,000 the lowest price.

We should keep the value up ourselves.

There are so few of us in this market...I popose we create a Lotus Cosa Nostra. You enter the club but cannot leave that easily. Keep the prices up! We setup the market price.

Also, since there is no way to determine the quality of the install, the dealer may get nervous because he's on the hook by law for the car for at least a few months.

A private sale will yield higher numbers but you have to market the car and deal with the tire kickers.

My guess is that trade in you'll likely be offered in the mid $20k range. Someone might step up into the higher $20s. Retailing it yourself should get you in the mid $30s because you'll be able to target "people in the know" who understand what you've done. Retail value on an unaltered 06 would be in the low to maybe mid $30k range at a dealer.

Interestingly, a 06 Lotus Sport Elise will easily fetch $40-42k on the open market and is, outside of the SC, very close in spec to your car.

Thanks Robert- I've come to the same conclusion- I knew I'd never recover the mods, but it's been half the fun of ownership!

nada list used price estimates for Lotus.

New Car Prices, Used Car Values, New Car Reviews & Car Buying Guides - NADAguides.com Official Site

Just my 2c:

The potential for the dollar to weaken and relatively limited production numbers may help to slow dollar depreciation on these cars.

In the current market some people are forced sellers, accepting relatively low offers for their cars to get a fast sale. If you aren't in a hurry to sell, no need to sell at the low end of the price range just because someone else was forced to for whatever reason.

I think they will settle to the low to mid-20s for good cars. Higher for tricked out rides nut below 20 for rats. The problem is I am afraid rats will drag the prices down. Mine has a 5 years left on the warrenty. At $135 hr. shop time it will not take long drane a bank account. I think mine will go after the warrenty just before the big $$ problems start.

I wouldnt mind if the prices dropped to low $20k being Im shopping around and looking to buy this spring. Hah. but in realtiy I plan on spending high 20's to low 30's. Why? I feel the car is worth it. As you guys have stated there are only so many and when I do get an elise I plan on keeping it forever. I made the mistake of selling my frame of resto I did of an 83 jeep scrambler. I put well over $10k into it and only got $3800 when I sold it. Had to sell it as I was moving cross country and needed the money to move. I still kick myself for it as they are rare vehicles and I had one I built myself. Like giving away your favorite toy as a kid. I'll never do that again. Id love to see the prices stay up on the elise. I see it as an investment you can have a lot of fun with. I hope to buy from a member on here simply cause I feel most of you take really good care of your cars tracked or not.

Bingo.

This is what is dictating the used values for the Elise...and is how I got mine.

My speculation is that once the shake-out of the number of owners in-over-their-head settles you will actually see used Elise values rise.

I've been watching Elise prices for 4 years now...this summer was the all time low...too many sellers, not enough buyers (when I bought...2500mi, 2007)

As the economy gets better, supply of 2006+ used is going to dry up. There are a TON of 2005 still available...once they get bought up the under 10k miles 2006+ will get back into mid $30k levels with consistency...imo.

Hold if you don't need to sell.

I recently picked up a 2005 Elise for $14,000

It was a single owner car, Not a salvage title, just had 90K commuting miles.

I've been through the car pretty thoroughly and nothing seems to be falling off!

It's now my wifes daily.

It really doesn't matter.

Wouldn't dream of selling Loti for less than 70K which means never.

Hi

(Hope it not too rude to ask...)

Thats about $10,000 below the low end listed in NADA.
90k miles doesn't seem that much for a modern car.

Were there any special cirumstances for that price or did you hit the jackpot or are values really depreciating that fast with milage?

I thought it was some sort of scam, but it was just a guy needing money for his Honeymoon in Tahiti. I get some of the craziest deals by doing regular searches on Craigslist.

The front of the clam had a small crack where a guy with a tow hitch backed into him. The owner collected the $8000 from the insurance company and unloaded the car.

I pulled the clam off and my body guy had it fixed in a week. I also used the opportunity to delete the front turn signals and seam.

With 90K miles and regular service at Boardwalk Lotus, I'd guess most any mechanical issues are already sorted out

I do not believe this is representative of current Lotus values, thankfully, but at $14K, I couldn't pass it up!

I love the look w/ the deleted front seam. Can you share how much it set you back? What did you elect to do for turn signals?

My body and paint guy owed me some favors, so the work only cost the paint and materials (I think about $500) for me to have the seam deleted, the license plate plinth deleted and the turn signals deleted. I had the access panels painted as well, since they had some chips.

I mounted 35W mini motorcycle turn signals in the openings for the oil coolers and put them behind the mesh (I installed mesh on the front as well). They are very bright and very visible day or night.
