You can readily take the front grill off the Elise. This can come in pretty handy. Road debris like twigs and leaves need to be cleaned out. Our cars can also suck in small animals so its good to have a front grill that is easily removable.

Here in Canada, the Exige is about 15,000$ more than the Elise. For that price you get 30hp and 90lbs of downforce but also a 100lbs weight penalty over an Elise. That same 15,000$ will give you an Elise with 300hp, 300lbs of downforce, still be lighter, and money left for track days, tires, rims.
...all true, even here in the 'states...

Never really looked at it that way but going with an elise would be much cheaper just the body style is way different but i guess with about 15 extra grand in my pocket i could do some pretty unique mods to the elise

The only year that an Elise was comparable in performance to the Exige was 2006. Whenever these Exige vs. Elise debates start, the Elise crowd ignores the S240 and S260 and when people FI an Elise, they usually add a spoiler for added downforce thus basically making their Elise and Exige.

Don't tell any Exige owner that an Elise with 15k$ of mods is gonna kill any stock exige anytime anywhere. It might hurt their ego. After all, they paid 15K$ over the price of an Elise for minimal downforce, an inefficient intercooler, no rear visibility and a 150lbs weight penalty....

That is why I got an 06. Less than 5k more than an Elise and I didn't have to buy front splitters or wings.

Factory prepared > aftermarket mods You can always mod a car to go faster than the factory because the factory doesn't have the option of selling cars that blow up or have continual problems.

^true + you get to keep your warranty. The elise is a very nice smooth car and the exige is its evil counterpart

Aftermarket mods aside, there is absolutely no difference in terms of "smoothness" driving a stock '06 Elise vs. a stock '06 Exige. An Exige may look more evil (depending on your opinion), but it isn't in any substantive way.

So the heatsoaking I\C one the Exige is better than the VF one?

The M62 on the Exige is better than the M62 on the Katana/BWR/VF?

The fuel starving stock gas tank is better than Phil's swirl pot?

Sorry but the factory is good at maximising profit. That's what the Exige really is. Just a fancy way of taking your $$$. If you feel the Exige is worth the extra cost, go for it. But it is basically the same car.

The difference is hp and this can be easily cured with aftermarket. CharlieX tunes are as good if not better than Lotus stock tunes. That was my point. If you want to track your Lotus, an Elise with upgrades is gonna be faster and safer than any oem Exige. That's the sad truth. Don't shoot the messenger.

my extra 10k got me:
variable TC
Larger brakes
stainless brake lines
a hardtop(thats extra if you get an elise )
2 oil coolers
lighter wheels(also extra on the elise)
a pre-installed SC with all the piping(saves me a lot of headache)
variable cam switch
stiffer clutch(granted not stiff enough)
stiffer suspension
PROVEN downforce that doesn't look super tacky(no matter how much ugly crap you bolt to your elise you can't say it really adds downforce unless you rent a wind tunnel)
trunk release lever(BOOOYA!)
Seats that can take a 4 point

yes the exige is a few pounds overweight... nothing a diet won't fix tho

I will concede that I like the look of the elise better than the exige(except from behind... giggidy)

I think its worth the money as doing all of that to an elise would be costly and time consuming
