I notice in your list of mods that you list a lidbone but it looks like you're using the stock prop in the pictures. Did you have problems with the lidbone?
A- I really hate to say it but within like 5 minutes after seeing the outside of the car I was already thinking that. "Wow, when this gets fixed I hope I can yank that off the old clam!"

B- My Lidbone rattled like crazy, always sounded like the motor was knocking. When it rattled it seemed like the sound reverberated through the engine lid, which deepened and amplified it. It was fine for the first couple weeks but after a while it got loose and I was never able to get it to the right mix of tight but not too tight. One night I got sick of it and took it off. That and it always hit the engine cover, leaving a mark/indention.

Sorry about your ride
This much damage made car into "parts only" .
If its only fiberglass and suspention it can be put back on the street ,after you pass inspection ( in most states), but if it has any frame damage its inposible to find any shop that would tiuch it .I tried ....

Parts only, indeed. And not too many of them!

By law, your insurance has to allow you to pick your own shop for the repairs.

Sorry for your loss Shaggy. Besides the clams the front crash structure will need to be replaced which is not only an expensive part but also labor intensive. If that doesn't total her, if the suspension pickup points on the rear chassis are damaged that will do it. Coolingmist... 16k to just replace a cosmetically damaged clam sounds totally out of line, was there any other damage? (radiator, crash structure, headlamps?)

Bummer to hear about this, but glad you're OK. Good luck with the insurance.

Unfortunately, welcome to the club. Glad to hear that you're OK.

I have to agree with the other posters that the cost of new front and rear clams plus the crashbox and headlamps will make this a total loss.

In my crash, I had no frame or suspension damage. They needed to replace the crashbox, front clam, A/C system, radiator, oil coolers, tires and windshield. The total cost was over $25,000. (But not enough to total the Exige S.)

My insurance company was Geico, and they were first rate all the way.

I wonder if there is anything Lotus can do in the future to strengthen these egg shells covering the car. Maybe a different material that's almost as light and cheaper to replace.

I don't think this will fly with the new Eagle. Customers aren't gonna want to hit a pot hole and have a $10k repair job over it.

Sorry to hear of your accident. Hopefully everything will work itself out.....
also had a close call a few weeks ago, im blaming the tire LOL

but on a serious note, glad you are OK, it could have been worse

KG are rare enough, we gotta take another one off the street

as far as insurance...pray it will be claimed as a "total loss", there will be more things wrong underneath it all, and hopefully you get another elise/exige

good luck

Really, really sorry to see those picks. Your Elise actually held a special place in my heart because it was on my computer background for months before I got mine. Well, at least you can have a very small fragment of comfort that your Elise caused me to purchase mine and put another KG on the street.

Chin up,

Shaggy, so sorry to hear about the car. You walked away and that's the important thing. Let the vultures go hunt at the auction houses and just make sure you are okay. It looks like a mild set of touches, but in these cars that still means being bounced around a bit inside.

If there is any one thing I do hate about our Elise's/Exige's it's how absolutely fragile they are and the comparative expense. Something as simple as pulling up too close to a curb should not be a $12k penalty...

Sorry to hear about your accident.

In the second pic, is that a sideways skid-mark on the road?

I saw that you have the Chase Cam as a mod. Did you happen to have that running at the time? That will help you figure out what happened, maybe.
