Exhaust Smell

I bought my car a week ago with an aftermarket exhaust. While driving with top off I get exhaust coming into cabin. I changed the exhaust to double tip coing out of bumper with same results. I did check the gasket going into catalytic converter and it has no leaks. Is the normal for this car due to the design??

thanks for any input

Yes, they all do that. Some people are immune, some not. Here's what I did.
Worked great at first, but has come back somewhat lately. Probably the latex foam is falling apart.

Fuel smell, exhaust smell, chemical smell resolved

I get a small amount of exhaust smell with my car but I seem to notice it more if I have the soft top on with the windows rolled down. When my top is removed, I practically have no exhaust smell. Also I seem to notice it more when I fill up the gas tank. Usually the first quarter of tank it seems to have a little more smell, after that it goes away. I had it checked by dealer but they said there were no leaks. This is my first mid engine car so I figured it must be normal because of the design.

I've had my 2008 Elise SC for 5 weeks now (450 miles), and immediately noticed the infrequent wiff of gas with the hardtop on. Mostly occurs with a quick stop. Nothing leaking around the car or engine. I thought it might be around the gas cap. It disappates in a few seconds. Just another one of the "features" that Lotus provides free of charge.
