Not the oil pan or main seal, but there IS a known problem with the Exige S that relates to a gasket that was not installed, or was incorrectly reused when the supercharger was installed. Ends up with potentially quite a mess of oil on the undertray at < 1,000 miles.

Lotus dealers are supposed to be informed about this and taking care of it - is the shop a Lotus dealer?

i've got almost 2800 miles and nothing so far. Didn't know there was such a problem. Should I still be worried even after driving this many miles?

On mine it was pretty obvious there was a problem - look at the top of the engine undertray, if there is an oil stain / oil there then it needs fixing. I could see this using a flashlight and looking from the rear wheel - saves you pulling off the undertray.

Note, it isn't like this is causing any damage - just mess!

I also have a leak that showed up on the undertray. The dealer did not know what it was, and did not fix it. I thought it might be the rear main seal, glad to know it probably is not!

Assuming you keep a check on your oil.

Yes, there has been a service bulletin on this and all the Lotus dealers should be informed and ready to address this problem. I just discovered oil on my under tray the other day. HRM will be fixing this for me shortly.

There is no other car for any amount of money that I would rather own and drive.

Thanks

my shop ( not lotus but a race shop) tightened up some leaking oil line fittings and it seems to have helped...they are convinced however that its the rear main seal leaking and that the crankcase vent isnt good enough for the engine

O ring was obtained from Toyota.

It was the dip stick O ring on my Cup240 as well (after the dealer tried the factory recommended re-sealing of the vapor recovery plate/spigot on the block -- it didn't fix the issue).

They are wrong -- listen to Carl's advice.
