There's a difference between your friends (or people at the track) asking for a ride, and the random guy you've been chatting with briefly who sneers, "So... When are you taking me out for a ride?" (or some variation of such) And it's frequently a fallback for when I laugh in their face after they ask when they can drive it. No one drives my car but me.
I have no problem taking my friends out, or when people at the track as for a ridealong -- provided the track rats are OK with waiting until the end of the day after I've had my fun and my fast lap.

Well said! NOBODY drives my car except me. I will give most people a ride so they can experience the rush, but do NOT ask me to drive it. It will not happen!

If a car makes any difference one way or the other, she is not the right girl/woman.
For me, Lotus is who I am, shallow as that might be. I live Lotus, and have done so for most of my life. I take what I want to take. If I feel like the Lotus (which is most of the time) I take that. I don't give a damn what the girl thinks, does, feels one way or the other about the car. All I care about is how I feel about her and her about me. The car should really make no difference. But I have been out of the dating game for 40 years. Saying that, Lotus is how I met my wife and we have been doing great for 40 years.

Take the Lotus. Believe me, she will tell her girlfriends about it... Actually, take the nicest car you have.

I bought the Elise recently because that was the kind of driving experience I wanted. If it had a less desirable look, I would have bought it anyways. Having said that, do I like the look of my car? You're darned right I do! It looks over-the-top fabulous! But, for the same reason as I didn't run and post a pic of it on Facebook, I probably wouldn't take it on a first date. Also, as someone else mentioned, I would pick my car for the occasion just as I would pick my clothes for the occasion.
