Fixed my window (thanks ET!) now battery question
I read about the battery problems in threads linked to the uber post above. My battery already leaked!! I was doing some spirited driving tonight and when fixing my window problem (from another thread) I went into my trunk and found very hot water all over the place.
The carpet was wet with boiling (almost) water. Anyway, it was probably from the battery. I was pissed b/c my manual for the radio and the car got very wet...How is the battery supposed to be anchored? The manual shows a clamp, but I have none. Does that plastic box hold the battery in place when you have a clamp to anchor the plastic box down? I bet I have to go to my dealer to get one... let me know what you know please. Thank you! Can I buy any of the batteries that work in the Elise at Autozone or similar? I don't want to order online, I want a battery now! If so, which battery from Autozone or the specs to match? |

There should be a clap to hold the battery down. Also, the stock battery has been known to leak.
If you're going to replace the battery, I'd recommend the Braille Lightweight Battery from Sector 111: http://www.sector111.com/handler.cfm...nction=product |

Allan, is the battery held in place by the plastic box? My battery is just sitting there on the floor and the plastic box is currently only held in place by the snaps that the trunk liner snaps to.
Does the clamp hold the box which then holds the battery? |

No, there should be a piece of metal bolted to the floor of the boot area that holds the battery in place. The plastic cover is intended to be cosmetic/semi-functional (it holds the toolkit).
I'm happy with my Braille battery, but I'd suggest just admitting defeat and ordering a battery tender at the same time.Others here have Optima battery; probably could find out the part # using forum search, but you'd still need to obtain/make some sort of holddown. HTH, Jen |

Thanks.
Yeah, there's no hold down. I know the dealer that I bought my car from replaced the original batter and they must have not put anything there. I drove it pretty aggressively last night around turns, etc. It could have been bad news had it hit the clam enough to damage it! I'm heading to our local Lotus dealer to see what they have to anchor down my battery. If I order one from sector111 will it come with something to tie it down? Thanks for the help! |

Yes, the Sector111 one comes with a sexy little aluminum hold-down with the "111" logo on it. Due to the handmade nature of the cars, you may need to tweek the hold-down attachment by adding some washer or such, but I've been SUPER happy with it. And the battery is AMAZINGLY small.
