Is this a good deal?
Was thinking I may need to keep something like this around to prevent future issues with the Elise. Wireless Daily Deal, 1 Sale A Day
Is this a good deal and a decent set? 33-Piece Roadside Emergency Car Kit with Jumper Cables, Flashlight, Gloves, Screwdrivers, Tire Pressure Guage and More!

I've got a larger roadside kit that also includes:
emergency blanket roadside triangle reflector and base air compressor Tow rope larger ratchet set zip ties first aid kit I think I paid about $30 for it a few years ago at walmart. I've used it quite a few times. You might consider adding a few of those things to this $10 kit. I've used them all except for the blanket and first aid kit.

Looks really nice in the picture and you figure "Look at all you get for TEN DOLLARS!" When you do get it, it will be made in China and look like cr-p. Don't waste your money, there is nothing worse than trying to use a tool and it either falls apart in your hand or it slips or breaks and you hurt yourself. Always try to buy the best tools you can afford. Anything less is a waste of money.

It may be a "you get what you paid for" item. Whether you buy this particular kit or not, you should have a few items. I carry jumper cables, small compressor, tire repair kit with a t-handle (the t-handle is really important!!!), a can of fix a flat, and a first aid kit 'cause I'm a nerd like that.
I usually try to make sure I have a bottle of water in the car too in case I break down I'll have something to drink.

I'm familiar with the site and it actually has lots of good quality items on it. Even the freebies. Gasp! I just got a travel jewelry box for free from them today and it's super nice quality. (I actually wish I would have ordered more to gift my friends.) So I'm not too worried about quality, was just curious if these items were worthwhile. I've become quite the deal hound and this is one site I check daily for deals.

IMHO you will get what you pay for with this kit.
Seems that to avoid your previous problem you need a reliable set of jumper cables (probably more than $10), a reliable flashlight (ditto), a pair of gloves, and a friendly enough smile to convince someone to let you connect to their car. Maybe this is not an area to seek a bargain? |

It's a great idea to keep a basic set of tools, water, etc. in the daily driver. But real tools, not these cheap toys. The photo gives away the rock-bottom quality. Despite the description, there is no ratchet handle, just a nutdriver handle; the sockets are probably imperial, while you need metric. The jumper cables are a very light gauge wire.
For a reasonable price you can get a set of medium-duty cables in a nylon case, which will have enough room to squeeze in a quality adjustable wrench, two screwdrivers, the Lotus tool set, and a small first aid kit. Done.

We were given some of these at work after a safety seminar. If you don't have any tools, you can't go wrong for $10. But it is some of the sh!tt!est tools I've encountered. (The sockets were a mix of imperial & metric btw.) Ok if you don't have anything, but not durable to be used frequently. Which I suppose is tolerable for a backup.
I'd suggest throwing in a white rag and light sticks/flares. If the flashlight uses a filament bulb, replace it with a xenon or high intensity LED.

Something is better than nothing. I agree the jumper cables are probably crap though. Its amaxing how many people dont have jumper cables in their car. All my vehicles have jumpers and a few simple tools and a mini mag. When I had a CJ8 I carried around a whole tool chest. Then again I spent most my time in that thing out in the middle of no where.

Very basic. I agree with several others, add to the kit with at least an inflator (not just Fix-a-Flat) and perhaps a quality tire repair kit.
Check out: - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices and: - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices These may not be the very best available, but they give you a baseline. If these got you home from just one flat tire, they'd be more than worth the price. I've always had very good luck with Harbor Freight Tools. For instance, I've used their float chargers on every car I've owned for nine years and they always do the job and have been utterly reliable. Their hand tools are good, if not artistic, and they have lived up to their lifetime warranty, so far.
