Most places won't let you get a plate they deem rude or representing rude. That's why you never see the plate LOVESEX for example. A lot are will actually not accept acronyms either. I think most would reject FOOBAR for example. With FBANGLE, you could probably come up with a good excuse around "angle" if they questioned it. RTFM or WTF might be more difficult unless you are named Walter T. Frank or some such (and they still might not give it out).
My favorite is

Can you use 8 letters where you live? The max. is 7 here.

In California, you can have 7 letters and 1 half space (if desired).

Actually, it depends on the plate. Some vanity plates only take up to 6 characters, some up to 7.

Since the Elise has been rather elusive, I sort of like ELISIV or ELISIVE. But most people probably wouldn't get it.

If you get a kiddie plate, you can use a heart or star symbol. I was toying with LOTUS "love"R or ELISE "love"R. Or LOTUS "star" or ELISE "star". But some of these may not be available. And the heart ones may be too cute.

So far, I plan to get a CA Arts plate (with sun and palm trees), which only allows up to 6 characters and use a non-Lotus message.

Ratz, and there is no way to shorten this and have it mean the same thing.

I just thought of the best one.

OWNED

then you could take the plate off and use it as a stamp.

And ONLY if you use it exclusively for racing - there's gonna be enough idiots out there as it is who will see an Elise and use it as an excuse to act stupid on public streets...

As it is, I'm thinking we'll already need a nice big day-glow posterboard sign that says: "Racing belongs at the track"

Haven't seen these mentioned:

DWN HERE
LOOK OUT
BIG GRIN
AAAAAAH
38 MPG (or whatever it works out to)
NO ROVER
TOY CAR (heh)

One I've been toying with is
LES=MOR
Get it? Less is more. Very philosophical, but also implies less weight means more performance.

P.S. If you're wondering how I'll get away with the equal sign, a couple small strips of black electrical tape will take care of that.

It's the piano concerto (or whatever you call it) that goes "dee-doo dee-doo dee-doo doo-dee-doo"

I think it means "Fair Elise" in German. Probably about a chick he had a crush on?
