hmmm - this is interesting. I am interested in painting my calipers as well. Saffron yellow! The car will be Nightfall Blue.

Someone please post pictures if you have already painted the calipers.

interesting how he put his Elise up on paper stacks!

I like the Azure Blue better than Nightfall Blue - at least from the photos.

Here's a couple of shots of my calipers. Overall the Elise calipers are pretty uninteresting, with the back Brembos being positively boring. Don't think they have the same visual impact as on other cars. I was tempted to go red, but in the end opted for body color. Red would probably have more visual impact

Also had the engine covers sanded and painted. I plan on shaving down the moulded lotus emblem on the cover and replacing it with a Lotus hood badge when it arrives

Looks rather cool, especially the fronts with the LOTUS on it.

Can you post a pic of the whole car with painted callipers when you're finished?

I was thinking about doing my hardtop in a different color for a different touch rather than the callipers. Maybe I'd do same color as my red leather seats.

when the calipers are painted, dont they pick up a lot of black brake dust?
is it difficult to clean them since they are tough to reach behind the wheels?

I would think that if the aerosol can product is an epoxy (part 'a' into part 'b' paint) then it would hold up. I would be leary of regular spray paint if you like to put heat into your brakes frequently. As MW has hinting at - the worst thing would be having to sandblast off peeling paint 6 months later.

So is the "caliper paint" from the parts stores 2 part epoxy?

Also, since i don't have my car yet, how smooth is the casting of the calipers? is it going to look "dimply" if painted?

all i want for my birthday is black wheels and yellow calipers! hahaha

edit - good grief you guys post fast!

The duplicolor is a one step paint product. It is a ceramic paint. It does come with a special cleaner. It says good up to 500 deg. What will brake temps reach on a track day?

rotors on race cars can glow red from beings so hot...temps can reach 1500F I believe...not sure if 500F can hack it

Thanks for the info. I think a little more research should be done on my part prior to painting.

What kind of paint did you use?
It looks great on the front lotus caliper.
Thanks

dont think it will have the same effect cause the calipers are fairly small...but with such a light and small car, dont really need the big brembo calipers...yours looks very nice though...fronts look decent but the rears are just ok because of the ordinary shape...how long did it take you to do this anyway?
