Chromed Calipers

Anyone have any experience with chromed calipers? Motorcycle calipers are chromed, would it hold up on our cars? Could our calipers be chromed?

Something like this guy's without the 'bling bling' factor (ignore the ugly rims):

Nice pics
I have BRG/biscuit and am considering yellow calipers to match the emblem but might be a tough match - wouldn't want real yellow. DId you give any consideration to that combo ?

JL,

Yes, I have a feeling the caliper paint would be a bright primary yellow. My stripes are brighter than the emblem, but the emblem is so small, you wouldn't notice. Max

Maxx-those look really nice. I'm opting for shiny shiny silver on mine. But that's a project for another month. I bet if I tape stuff off I can do it right on the car.

Would you use a paint to get shiny-shiny silver?

I would use a shiny shiny paint, not just any old paint. I'll get the caliper-specific shiny shiny paint, too.

Looks good. Do you have a pic of the whole car with the painted calipers?

Looks good! That's what I'm planning for my ST car when it warms up. Thinking of painting the letters green though.

Those are nice, but I'd add green letter highlighting. I decided on going with silver. Silver trim looks nice with BRP. Getting silver harnesses inside, too.

I called Symbolic today to see how much to get my SS brake lines installed and have the calipers painted at the same time. They said they don't do either and they will not modify the brake system from stock in any way. Called Newport European and they said they have never painted calipers for anyone. Can someone suggest a good place in Southern CA to get my calipers painted?

I changed my mind and am painting mine yellow with green letter highlighting. I should have mine done next week. I'm painting them right on the car, and will tape off other areas. This should be easy.

Sweet, now I'm bummed you won't have the elise at warminster. I'll have to wait till the next event to see this. I still haven't worked up the cajones to paint mine yet.

Hi Balance, I have seen a lot of cooked hand painted calipers at roadrace
tracks, however I have had very good results powder coating Ferrari calipers.
The calipers have to be striped and reassembled, this would be a process I could stand behind. All the best, Don @ N.E.
P.S. This statement is only based on my empirical knowledge.

Somebody I used to work with runs a corvette "how to" site. One of his guides is for painting his calipers.

http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=15

Doesn't hurt to read if you're thinking about doing it yourself.

Any chance I can get you guys to powder coat my calipers while you're putting in my ss brake lines?

Er, let me rephrase that, Don. Do you think there's any chance I can get Newport European's service department to powder coat my calipers while they're putting in my ss brake lines?

Engine paint holds up fine and is available in many colors. Ford engine blue is on my daily driven BMW and still looks fine after 3 years. I use a lower dust (mintex) brake pad and wash it regularly, also don't autocross it. But the increased breaking load of 18" wheels on a car designed for 15" does put increased load on the brakes. A couple other good tips if you don't want to remove the calipers (and then have to bleed them) is to mask the background with aluminum foil. It conforms very easily to all the contours, around the shocks, etc. and the fine details you can hit with a Q-tip, as well as touch up any spots with semi-gloss black. Spend a few minutes and you can never tell that you didn't remove the calipers.
