HPDE Patch/Plug Combo?

Plugs are clearly banned from the BMWCCA event I'm attending. The tech inspection for doesn't mention patches or patch/plug combos but I'm told that they may not be allowed.

What have others run into regarding this?
Is a patch/plug combo sufficient?
Have you driven in HPDE's with patches or combos?
Does BMWCCA allow combos?
Is there any way to tell if a tire has been patch (not plugged or combo'd)?

I would not use a repaired tire, personally, of any sort on the track. Other opinions may differ...

+1. Tires are dirt cheap compared to what'll happen if one goes out on you at the wrong time on the track.

Dude, no way in a million years would I get on a track if I thought my tires were less than perfect. I mean, my tires are litterally melting when I come off the track. To have a tire blow! Especailly in a turn that puts the most heat into it. Like a long high speed sweeper. I could n't do it. Way too much risk there.

Please don't.

From what I've read, a patch is fine as long as it is not near the sidewalls. Plugs are never fine.

I have driven on a patched tire when I could not get a replacement in time for an event. But, I ordered a new tire immediately.

I'm not recommending anything, just relaying what I've read over the years and what I've done myself. You pretty much have to decide for yourself. Most people will recommend to not drive on a repaired tire.
