There are at least a couple commonly understood personality types which fall into the category of non-conformists. They aren't non-conformists for the sake of being different, they just truly march to the beat of their own drum.

I have known a couple very well. Understandably, their lack of adherence to social norms can make them tough friends to keep. However, their perspectives, insights, humor, and creativity can be amazing.

The tvs in the headrests of an Elise is certainly an unlikely combination. But come on folks, step out of your rigid engineering mindsets for a moment and allow yourself to enjoy being amused, shocked, or disgusted.
You keep saying it's new and exciting.

It's not new. It's not exciting. It's not original. It's not stimulating. It's not innovative.

It's wannabe "Pimp My Ride" ostentation - useless, ridiculous, and pathetic - taken down a notch or ten.

An example of new and innovative form of ostentation is PimpStar...

What this kid did is just lame... in every sense of the word.

+1
And I know several myself. It's just a shame those guys in the white coats have to lock the door behind me when I leave after every visit.

"I'm gonna go paint a big beard and mustache on the Mona Lisa. Yeah, that will be stimulating, creative and different!"

No, it would be ruining a masterpiece, just like this moron did.

I fall into the non-conformist category... it can be an asset and a curse

I know or have known others that would fit the category.

But I don't have t.v.'s in my headrests

It's irrelevant if it is original. Many people unknowingly come up with the same creative ideas as others.

And judging from the response in this thread, it is stimulating.

Children are much better than adults at deriving enjoyment from things that disgust them. I'm not suggesting that people should like it, but I do contend that there is no reason for these tvs to make you angry.

Not to mention the personal judgments that are being made about someone we know very little about.

Uh...does anybody remember that there was a guy who did this "TVs in the headrest" thing about a year ago?

This isn't the first time this was done.

It's was a silly idea then and it's a silly idea now.

He said himself that he was inspired by PMR. He's not creative. I'm offended that you would assign that attribute to such an obvious copycat act. It degrades what I do for a living.

Genocide is stimulating in that sense, too. Doesn't mean it's a positive contribution to society.

PS : You might want to cool it with playing porn on your seat LCDs, that is unless you like facing felony obscenity charges and would like to be on the (very public) registered sex offenders list for the rest of your life !
Duo Busted For Car Porn Screening - September 30, 2005

And sorry Motto44 this guy is the antithesis of creative, he is doing nothing original, in fact he is mindlessly following what the hiphop and dub magazines, and pimp my ride shows dictate is the new IN style... About as
"creative" as getting a tribal tattoo, or Chinese character tatt from a tattoo shop catalog, or piercing your nose.....

I want to be different just like everybody else !

Kinda like this.

It's not the same. You are free to modify your own Elise any way you like. Although I consider them to be works of art, they aren't unique.

Come on everyone, calm down!

Things could be worse than putting TV's in your headrests, in fact, much worse.

If anyone thinks of something, be sure to let us know!

I'd rather he put tvs in his headrests and drive his car safely than crash his car. C'mon, it's a few pounds of weight, but it's not a big deal. I wouldn't do it, but it's kinda funny in a ridiculous worthless way. I chuckled. If it makes him happy, that's cool.

The kid is 20 years old and expressing his own individuality. I'm guessing everyone here did things during those years that others would consider out of step.

As long as he isn't harming anyone else with his actions, why should we care how he chooses to differentiate himself?
