Thanks Harold... got my blanks in the mail today. Too bad I didn't get'em before I destroyed one of my original keys whilst integrating it into the FOB.

Question logo embossed on plastic cover of key?

Is there an image of the Elise/OPEL key blank offered, other than the PDF-file? I'm just curious, as I'm looking to place an order for another make, but wasn't sure if the "Ilco" script was embossed on the plastic cover of the key or that area was blank.

Thanks!

Osiris x111, great question. Unfortunately these keys are not OEM, do not have plastic, and do not have lights. They do have the "ilco" logo. I have added the drawing to the original post. Thanks.

I received my keys today. Looks like the post office thought you were sending something illegal, because they went through the envelope. All is well however, the key blanks were not damaged!

Thanks!

I was going to post this in the other thread about keys, but it appears to be locked.

In that thread, I posted:
Quote:
it appears that the closest match of all the keys on that page might be the X200/MZ22 key for Mazdas. The X222/MZ27 key is almost the same, and is what I have for my Miata. The X200 key appears to be a bit thicker judging from the diagram (the cross section diagrams is not looking at the end of the key, but looking at the "hole" the key will fit into. When I was trying the Axxess machines, the Axxess "41" key is what is used in my Miata, and the Elise key would not quite fit into the slot on the machine, indicating that it's a tad bit thicker than the Axxess "41" key (which won't work anyway because of the shape of the tip of it).
Well, the results are back. The X200/MZ22 key is too thick - it won't even go into the key slots.

That means that the X222/MZ27 key is the correct key for the Elise (or at least the closest commonly available key so far). So, Harold's X222 (MS27) key blanks are indeed the choice to use for the early lighted keys.

Thanks, Tim. I've been waiting to hear back from you about this.

It's good that the other thread was locked. It keeps all the new info in one place.

I have one more data point...

We took my key to a different lock smith yesterday. He found a key (for some Daewoo) that might even be closer to the original key. It fit in each of the locks and works fine, except for one thing. When inserted in the ignition, it works fine, but when I turn off the ignition, the key kind of "sticks" while I try to pull it out. I think that there might be some burrs on the side of the key that needs "trimming".

I'll let everyone know. In the mean time, it appears that the "Miata" (X222/MZ27) key should still be a good match...

Thanks a bunch

Got the keys yesterday. I also got my $$ back plus I didn't have enough postage on the envelope so you put on another stamp. You are quite generous

I took both blanks (X222) to a locksmith and he cut one but it was really long. I asked him to try the other using the 'hub' of the key rather than the 'tip' of the key for reference. The second key is nice and compact (even shorter than the original). If anyone plans on having keys made, make sure you specify this before they start because using the tip is much eaiser for them, but they can do it the other way.

Again, thanks for your generosity

Jim
