But it'd be 28 hp that comes attached to a 3 year 36k warranty! I'm assuming these will be street legal or no?

Yeah I get it.... but certainly if all the components are there why not give it more horsepower

So, the next generation Elise/Exige can have 240hp. Do throw all your technology in one product year or you'll have to spend more money later to give customers more power.

Maybe they were concerned about warrantying any more boost than that?

It has to last for 36000 miles of abuse. Also look at the P car power progression, it seems like every other year. That would be annoying unless you lease your fun car.

SC = more torque. Who cares about the added HP? WHat matters is the added torque.

what about the torque?

considering the engine has only 138 ft-lb to start and 189hp in the 2nd cams, i'd say it could use some torque more than HP... especially for daily driving when you'd trying to not alert the police. that said it seems like not much, but then it's still just a little 1.8 liter motor in which 24hp is about 13% increase with factory warranttee. Durability, planned obsellescense, and engineering time available before something goes to market would be the 3 places i'd put my money on their rational for only 24hp gain.

PLUS! Once the super charger is already in there, getting more out of it is the "easy" part. It's squeeking power out of a naturally aspirated motor or getting a supercharger in the first place which seems to be the trickiest point based on reading here.

biggest gripe is it's only in the exige if you ask me, i'm not interested in that one.

Actually, it has to go 100 or 150k without fault to pass the emissions compliance. Now that I give it some thought, it's likely that figure was way more important than the 36k warranty.

Even though it is only a 28HP increase to the peak number, representing a 13% increase in the peak, it is safe to assume that the difference is as much or more in the mid range. You take the same 28HP increase and apply it let's say around 4K rpm, where the NA horsepower is probably about 100, and you're talking about a 28% increase in street cruizing power if not more! It should totally change the drivability of the car.

Mmm, but can they do that. I would doubt they can add that much power at that low rpm's on the first cam

I would gauge the increase of 28 hp based on hp measured at the rear wheels instead of the engine...that is what you'll feel and actually get to use. It will be materially greater than 13%. As already mentioned, the real benefit will be torque rather than hp.

Sitting here with a salty taste in their mouth that they bought too early.

IMHO, it would have been a different story altogether had I not been told by every person connected to Lotus that it wasn't coming prior to purchase..or if news of the Exige S coming to the US also spoke of upgrades to existing cars.

Lotus, are you laughing with me or at me?

I don't know whose been telling you - but I've been hearing for over a year now that it's coming. Perhaps it's just your perspective and what you wanted to hear.

Well I was just making up the numbers to show my point, so I don't know exactly. The numbers I used may be out of line. But the smaller cam should benefit from forced induction more than the bigger cam, percentage wise. And anyway it's safe to assume that with forced induction they could lower the cam change-over rpm a lot.
