That's the line that freaked Alistair Mcqueen out . Really looks like we will T-bone the guy in front sometimes, esp if I wait really late to start braking...

Taking that tight line to the right, you really load up the left side of car fully, huge loaded pendulum. Then a little before you get to the top for the left hander you release the pendulum to load up the right side, serious opposite lock and drifter action. The transition from right turn to left turn is what I call my double pendulum, took a lot of practice to really nail it consistently, cars traction, track traction, and passenger ballast are very key to where you will end up ...

I've driven a number of cars at the track, but no street car I've ever driven can transition from one side to side other with such precision and quickness. I wish someone could show me vidi from behind, like to see how it looks, it's fun as heck from the inside ...

I do it too, although at a much slower pace than YAUDI. At the first braking cone, instead of braking, I dive in and aim straight for far outside of the turn, keep going a bit farther, and then start braking. Why do I do this? Because I rode with YAUDI. He's the Drunken Master.

If it was a race that "line of the intercepting paths" would be a sure way to pass the guy who stayed wide.

MSR Houston Cobra Club Event Vids

Here's some video from the Cobra event at MSR Houston last weekend.

I'm trying to keep up with a Cobra R and I get pretty sideways at about 4:40:

I get stuck behind a Ford GT and then run out of gas:

Nice driving, that track has great run off areas, the tracks down here in so fla have walls and tire barriers not very forgiving. I wish we had open land tracks like that.

Everything is bigger here in TX... Esp the run off areas...

With MSR-Cresson, MSR-Houston, TWS, TMS-Roval (if you lke walls), Eagles Canyon (soon to be done), Racers Ranch (getting started), Liberty Raceway Park (proposed), and a track or 2 in the hill country, we might not need to ever leave the state at all. Thou Hallet's not that far from DFW either...

Alistair must of liked it, cus he showed me that line when he instructed me during the last session of Day 1 at LOG! I had a hell of a time getting it right - seems counter intuitive. But it is obviously faster when executed with the precision of YAUDI. Great vid.

At VIR last weekend my wife and I played around with the idea of filming the car from inside and behind. You know how couples like to shoot videos from different angles. It was a lot harder than I imagined: keeping the cars close together without holding up traffic, flak from the other drivers and corner workers, etc. The goal was to try to show that the car would slide easily and controllably, and didn't "snap oversteer". It turns out that showing this on a video isn't very dramatic, you really can't see the car rotate that well if you do it smoothly. So then I tried making it drift, with dreams of looking like Fast and Furious, VIR Drift with smoke coming off the tires...not so easy for a non LSD car and a non drift trained driver. On the fifth try of going through turn one lighting up the tires (they never would smoke) by braking late, turning in hard and stomping on full gas I did have it go too far and almost spun it completely around (the wife was watching out for this and keeping her distance). The video (kept short) shows it takes a lot of mishandling to get it to come out and that it can be brought back the other way if you are expecting it (too much in this case, but then I am not a professional.)
Don't try this at home.

I don't think you need the late braking. Just be more to the inside so you have room to drift and turn in too much under power.
This was the one time I lost it all weekend doing this, at every turn. The wheels spin all the way around the turn, it just sort of scoots along but none of the drama. Maybe they have special tires instead of worn out 48's?

Point being that they car doesn't just jump out on you unexpectedly. It is fun to spin the tires through the turn with the throttle on full blast. Feels like what I would expect it feels like when the Brahma bull rider goes out of the chute. But no bad crunching bone noises at the end.

Definitely not the fastest way around the turns, but it was instructive in how quickly it would be possible to get on the throttle.

In the first video see how he is gently "sawing" on the steering wheel as he goes through some turns? He is feathering the car at the limits of adhesion. This is what I call "greasing" it around the turn. Very smooth driving.
