In the feature "Best of British" featuring the Lotus Marque, Gavan Kershaw ,the principal chassis engineer drifts an elise around an approximately 200 foot diameter mound for several laps without straightening the car out.
He also drifts a twin turbo V8 Esprit on the Hethel test track until the Left rear tire deflates.
Impressive.

Hm. Would it be worthwhile setting up a torrent network/tracker for this sort of thing?

The video is about 350MB or something.

Just an idea.

It is a huge file 350MB. If you watch closely the coverage of elise assembly, it clues you as to possibly why a couple of cars have suffered oil cooler leaks.

Re: TopGear review of the S2 111s Elise

I've tried to watch this video. When it opens in QuickTime, I get a picture and sound, but the picture looks like a broken TV with the vertical and horizontal controls out of whack. It has about three stacked frames of the video twisted horizontally. I don't know if that made sense. It looks like three duplicate images stacked on top of each other and then stretched diagonally.

I've updated Windows Media Player and tried to play it on that... only get sound. Then I downloaded DivX... and it won't open the file.

OK.... I have updated QuickTime. I even downloaded the Top Gear video from different hosts. It still doesn't work! And, it looks like it's a good one, too... I'd really like to see it. Very strange that it doesn't play right. Any help??? I wish there was a way to post an image of how the screen looks.

Interesting.... I paused the video (with distorted picture) and copied it. Then pasted into a Word document... and the picture isn't distorted! What's up???

Hey Mike, I have that review in both quicktime and windows media (wmv) formats. Whichever one isn't working for you I can give you the other one to try.

Maybe Randy can give me somewhere to post the wmv version for download as it's about 39MB and likely too big for an email. PM me sometime.

And yes it's a good revieweven if it is for the eralier variant of the car.

Jim

Thanks for the link, kbob! Finally got to watch it. The Lotus chassis engineer sure knew how to waltz the Elise around those turns!

I sooooooooo can't wait until I get mine! Hopefully next year. Then I'll have the dilemma of whether to drive my WRX-STi or the Elise.... good problems to have!

Hey Fastwrx....

I have a 2004 WRX-STI and will be selling it since I am getting the Elise. I was wondering what kind of mileage you are getting on your STI?? I am only averaging around 17mpg and I am driving both city and highway driving. It is supposed to get 18-24mpg but I have never seen anything close to this.
It will be a very nice change when I hope to get 30mpg from the Elise.
Are you going to keep the STi or sell it. I have a second vehicle (Honda Civic) as my practical vehicle so I really don't need 3 cars so the STI has to go.
My toughest decision is whether to sell the STI now or wait until spring?? I am going to be getting the call from the dealer next month and I have not finalized my paint color yet. Very tough decision as well.
Cheers
Here is a pick of my beast.

To Marverick1

We sold our Silver 04 WRX Sti w/21,000miles. We had a very hard time selling it since 05 got some upgrades and Mitsu came out with the Evo MR.

I had better advertise it soon....

I am going to put it in the auto trader soon. Hopefully it will be a quick sale. Do you think it is better to sell privately or to trade in???
Cheers

You should sell it out right by however you can. That's my opinion.

I agree with KMS. Trade-ins always benefit the dealer.

Never make absolute statements (contradiction in terms intended)

There are times when trade-in can make sense, look into how long it might take to sell, how much you would get for it, how badly the dealer wants to make the sale this month, etc.

I have purchased 6 cars directly from a dealer (3 used, 3 new). In 3 of those cases (2 new, 1 used) I was actually better off trading in. Once was due to the time frame involved. The next was due to having a car that just wouldn't sell privately used (tried for 3 months with LOTS of different types of advertising), the dealer was able to re-sell it for $2000 more than they gave me, which was itself $1000 more than I was trying to sell it for privately. The final case was a real lemon of a used car that the dealer thought they could do something with anyway, they gave me considerably more than it was worth (really just meant a larger discount off the sticker on the new car) and were never able to re-sell it.
Of the remaining used cars I have turned over, all but one I sold privately and did quite well with, that final one was donated to a local church for one of their employees.

YMMV
