Lotus 78 in 1:18 (Exoto)

I didn't find a running thread for Lotus models, but for those interested, Exoto is now showing this 1:18 Lotus 78 for pre-orders. It's one of my favorite F1 cars. No info on their site as to how soon.

Eek! Does Exoto quality/detail match the price?
(I'm more familiar with other brands across the price/detail/quality spectrum.)

Yes, Exoto models are very very good. This is a beautiful car.

As Mike sez, they're magnificent models. I've got nine, but I had to quit buying them when the prices got over $150-$200. My money gets spent on my full-sized cars (except for Matchbox and Hot Wheels).

Let me see, $400 for a beautifully rendered model of a great race car or a two day track event with gas money......hmmmm......

Thanks, guys - good to know about Exoto.

I've got several 1:18 which are mostly AutoArt or Kyosho due to their quality & price point. I never thought I'd spend that much money on a 1:18 until a friend got a GMP McLaren M8A (GMP - Bruce McLaren / McLaren M8A). The detail on that thing was phenomenal!

btw - Sunstar did a line of 1:18 Elise GT1 cars in different liveries. They're not great but they're pretty inexpensive.

Yeah... but you'll smile when you pour that glass of single malt, spark up that stogie, and glance over at the bookshelf and see it.

Im not into toys or models or anything like that, but that thing does look nice. I have actually met Mario, his winery is near my office in Napa.

I have a handful of 1:18 Exotos, but also stopped buying after prices went past $150 or so. If you check their outlet site or subscribe to their emails, you get some good prices on in-stock items, and the offers are coming very often right now.

E.g., they have a 1988 Jaguar XJR-9 Daytona 24 Hr. car on sale for $99 (vs. $298), Ford GT Mk II and Mk IV's, Chapparals, etc. If you don't mind buying the 3rd place version instead of the race-winning version, you can pay a reasonable price.

I also would rather spend the money on my 1:1 cars.

If you must spend money on diecasts, I can attest-Exoto models are amazing. I only own a few,(representative of my all time favorite race cars), and I am still amazed by the detail. A little footnote...they also hold some value as each production run is limited.

I have several 1:18 Exoto examples, but only 1 1:10 GT40 mkII.

Exoto - 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II - Winner, 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, Amon/McLaren

These are a big step up in quality from Autoart, price too.
