Missing screw in Hub

After adjusting my anti-sway bar, when I tried to re-mount my left front tire I noticed the inside hub with the threaded holes for the wheel bolts was turning inside the hub carrier and upon closer inspection, the screw that held the inside hub was missing! I still don't know how it got missing but other than holding the threaded inside hub in place, does this screw serve any other purpose? The first picture is the left hub and you can see the screw is missing from the fifth (smaller) hole in the hub and the second picture is on the right front w/ the screw intact.

The only purpose is to keep the rotor in place (edit: when the wheel is off the car). FWIW, if you replace it, you might consider finding a regular flat-head screw rather than the allen screw used.

Have you had new disc fitted?

The retaining screw is quite often drilled out to remove it when changing discs.

It serves no purpose other than holding the disc in place when the wheel is removed, and is not required.

Your "inside hub" is the hub.

Your "hub" is the disk brake rotor hat.

Your missing screw is just to retain the hat onto the hub. It is not structurally necessary, but does make life easier.

hmm, you know i was thinking-- would that have anything to do with 80mph wheel shimmy?? probably not, but since trying to troubleshoot the 80mph shimmy is like playing sherlock holmes, every little thing makes you wonder...

Well, it may throw off the balance of the whole assembely slightly, but probably not enough to notice as it's very close to the center of rotation. I finally fixed my shimmy with new wheels and tires. I went through multiple balance jobs and alignments and I believe the root cause was just the Yokohama tires being out of round.

+1.... I found some at Home Depot --machine screw, flat-phillips, 6mm x 16mm, steel/zinc plated.

Use lots of anti-seize!
Had to drill out all four to replace rotors this winter. All had been coated with anti-seize.
