Need opinions on sale of my Exige to buy a track only Elise
Ever since purchasing my 2006 Exige I have been delighted and amazed at the capabilities of the car. However to make a long story short, my desire to move into TT and perhaps W/W has me thinking of selling this car and purchasing a 2005 Elise to convert to a track only car. My reasons are of driven by financial aspects as well as the desire not to devalue and perhaps ruin a fairly special car. I see a 2005 on cars.com for 19,900, that is a approximately a 15 K delta from what my car is worth. So 15K..., Trailer, used truck, shocks..etc!! That is my thinking anyway. I was hoping for some feedback to determine if anyone has done similar or perhaps just a completely different thought process. BTW, based on what I have heard so far, running with the LCS would seem to be a good way to go.. Finally, in terms of performance, I am very happy with NA for a track car, never been a HP guy anyway.. But.... 10 K would get me a nice BOE setup.. heheh...
Thanks,

What he said.... Are you sure cars.com isn't just displaying ebay auctions? There is no way you're going to find an elise for 19,900 that doesn't have a salvage title. Infact, is it just me or are the prices for 05's going up in value?
edit: ahh sorry I just looked.. 90k miles.. thats not too bad of a price at that mileage.

I like the idea of a no compromise car. Did that in the past.. and in case I get power hungry and decide to do a BOE kit.....:P

Looking at a 2005 Elise today, other than looking underneath for obvious damage are there any other key areas I need to look at?

Check the toe links. If they're loose they can stretch the metal in the subframe (or so I hear).

In any case, I like your idea Henry....you can make the Elise a serious track beast...I love mine, and don't plan on letting it go - I have modded it for tracking to my liking. Some of the fastest guys in the LCS are in NA Elise or NA Exige cars. Joining the LCS is a great idea...there is also speculation that a spec NA class will be started which would be perfect for your NA Elise. I also think you can get a salvage one Easily for under 20K - find a salvage that had primarily body/cosmetic damage...if the motor and chassis are fine - it should be great for a track car.

I am currently looking at all options, bottom line I need to be comfortable with the price of wasted car if need be. My Exige is not at that place. However something around 20 works for me... I am just waiting to put my car on the market. For some strange reason every 2006 Exige went on the market in the last two months... ???? Warranty? Season? A spec Lotus NA class would be awesome, actually looking seriously at SM. Nice thing about spec class in general , you REALLY know where you sit in terms of skill vs place on grid.. ![]()
