Didn't register what you were talking about??? Then I looked again. Nothing like throwing the turbo brick round the track... Maybe the lotus is back getting groceries? Pretty funny that you noticed that

Yep. That's a Volvo. I look at it when it's hood was up and it was decked out in blue hoses and other nick-knacks, so he obviously did something to it. It was going pretty fast down the straight. I'm not so sure about it's pregnant yak handling though. I prefer to use pregnant yak for some odd reason instead of brink

Good point. Good thing it was only $200. That's the cheapest driving class I could find. Too bad I drive like an old lady. Although it's probably better on the car

There were too many damn Miata's there. Could have made sushi with all that rice. There were a couple GT40's, GT-R's, my previous car the Evo, and quite a few corvettes. There was also a Gallardo which is one of the unattainable cars I'd like to have if I ever get a 6 car garage like one of the earlier posts. Although the next car I'd like will be a Tesla although that's wishful thinking considering I don't make nearly enough to buy one, let alone put a down payment on one then wait for a couple years to get it. A boy can dream though

Elise with a 911 and BMW 335i

So maybe the other cars aren't just regular cars. But when I got to the Deutschmark Concours I couldn't resist parking next to my friend's 911!

Superformance GT40 and Exige S 240...

I have long lusted after a GT40. Not the new Ford GT but the original, as produced currently by Superformance in South Africa. The original GT40 is much smaller than the Ford GT. I seriously considered making one before the Elise arrived here in 2004.

Recently a fellow has started showing up with his at the Santana Row gathering on Saturday mornings. Today I arrived late and parked next to him so I could compare sizes. (Sounds phallic...) I have always liked small cars and wondered how our Lotuses might compare.

The size is very similar. The front overhang is much longer on the Ford. The Ford is slightly lower, even considering the Gurney bumps. Somehow I doubt the handling will be as nimble. The sound coming from the bundle of snakes was amazing. Entry and egress is worse because of the wider sills and the door cutout.

I know what I will be doing if I ever get a bit of extra time.

Michael

My two mechanical toys, 1990 Esprit SE, and 2006 F350: turbodiesel, crew cab, dually rear, King Ranch package.

I got quite the deal on the Ford, trading in a little Ranger truck for Big Duke, as I call it, about two years ago. The joke is on whomever bought the Ranger, with the big V6, it got worse mileage on the road than this big fellow, about 16 vs around 18 for the big truck.

This is excellence in a different type of vehicle. Doesn't have quite the power of the Dodge Cummins engine, but it has plenty (325hp stock), and the rest of the truck is substantially superior to the Dodge. Wall to wall saddle leather interior, power sunroof, power everything, terrific suspension, really controls a load. I crossed a mountain in E KY with two tons of cut red oak in the back. In any other truck, that would have been a white knuckle drive, with brakes overheating and wobbling all over the road. Big Duke shrugged the load off like it wasn't there. Bad weather with crosswinds? Big Duke doesn't even move, just shoulders right through like a big linebacker.

I've left the engine stock, but hotrodded the sound system with a Pioneer D3. Has a slick ipod interface, lets you select music on the 7" touchscreen. It'll go 0 to 120 db in no time at all - subwoofer hides in the center console. And it's fun to drown out rappers in traffic with Mozart.

It has one other advantage over most vehicles: even the dimmest cell phone yakking driver in the most bloated SUV gives this monster a wide berth. As well they should, at a little under five tons, it's twice their weight. Yes, I like to play herd the cattle with rude SUV drivers - put the rear wheels right by their driver door, and let it gently drift over. By the time I've scared them into the white line, I've made my point. Behave yourself, I weigh twice what you do.

And I guess it takes a Lotus driver to do this: on the right sort of turn, I can coax it into a powerslide, aided by the massive torque of the diesel engine. Really gets the attention of people coming the other way.

Here's why truck guys refer to these trucks as 'the fat bottomed ladies':

Not "regular" cars, but entertaining nonetheless.

He posted the thread a week ago but I believe he just put up a picture of both of them in this thread.
