Question about Ardent Red?
So I've been browsing the vast quantity of images on this site, and it seems to me that Ardent Red is somewhat inconsistent, in some pictures, it appears to be very red, bold and vivid. In some pictures it looks almost pink. In others it appears to be a slightly faded red/almost orange. I was just wondering which of these is the most true to life, and if the optional starshield has anything to do with these inconsistencies. Ardent Red is one of my favorite colors for the Elise, (along with starlight black and arctic silver), and I was just hoping someone could clear this up for me.

Ardent Red is your typical bright vivid red, and is one of the base colors. Chili Red has orange flakes in it, and can look orangy in bright sunlight. Chili Red is no longer available on new cars. I don't think there are any Lotus colors that look pinkish in any way, with the possible exception of 2009/10. I think the Evora may have a new pink color for 2010.

Check out Ardent Red in person, it's quite saturated red. It kind of makes the car look a bit bigger, too. |

Before I bought it I was wondering just what shade of red it was. In my opinion Lotus got the color just right - not pink, not orange, just a "pure" red. I agree that you should see it in person before deciding.

If you look at them in person, the paint is pretty consistent between the Ardent red cars. .

The lighting has a significant effect on the color as well. In bright sunlight it's a bold red, really looks good. That gets muted with cloud cover.

I just purchased an ardent red '05. If you look at some autotrader or ebay pics (particularly of private sellers) the color sometimes appears different or faded. I think that's more likely due to bright sunlight and/or poor photography. If the photo is done well and digitally, ardent red looks very red. Check out car anyway. L
