July 4, 2007 -- I drove from Arizona to Missouri to surprise my mom on her 75th birthday. I drove US 60 from Mesa, AZ and across New Mexico... Interstate the rest of the way. Less than a block from my house I had to detour -- police had blocked the street. They found the body of a Mexican woman who had been murdered by "coyotes", wrapped in plastic bags, and dumped on the side of the road -- apparently as an example to other clients who refused to pay their smuggling fees.
1250 miles each way. Two days to get there, stayed two days, then drove back. September, 2007 -- drove from Mesa, AZ to Boulder, CO... 600 miles 1st day, 250 on 2nd day... drove through the Rocky Mtns. Some idiot on a motorcycle took out my left rear wheel, rear clam, etc., when he tried to pass me while I was making a left turn. The Elise rode home on an auto-transport. I've done a few other 400+ mile/day drives.

112 miles the day I bought it (a little over a month ago) from Criswell in Gaithersburg, MD back home to Harrisburg, PA. Got Stuck in rush hour traffic @ Frederick for 1+ hours then ran into more traffic from a bank robbery/high speed car (not mine)
chase when I got into the Harrisburg area. |

Every 2 years or so I do a driving holiday through Scandinavia with a mate of mine who drives an Opel Speedster.
Usually end up doing a total of about 6000 miles (10.000km) in 3 weeks doing a 'loop' from down south through Sweden or Finland to around the north-cape area and then back down through Norway and the border area with Sweden. (including gravel/dirt roads )Usually drive between camp sites. Tent and sleeping bag in the back. You have to pack 'creatively' to get everything in with clothes, food, etc., but if anyone has ever done a motorbike camping holiday then they should be just fine with an Elise (looooads of space! )Midnight sun over the arctic circle is very useful to 'stretch' the days a little ![]() ![]() Bye, Arno.

Only ~140, on the day I purchased my Elise and drove it home. However, the 140 miles took ~5 hours due to Friday rush hour traffic in LA. I had learned to drive a manual transmission on the day before, with <2 hours of practice in total, so it was a challenging trip. I plan to take some longer trips in the future.

Picasa Web Albums - Jeff - West Texas Ro...
1300 miles thru West Texas including Big Bend/Terlingua/Lajitas/River Road wanted to venture to the near-ghosttown of Candelaria, but info was sketchy as to what conditions the roads where in. I read that it was entirely dirt road which only 4x4s could navigate. The harley guys and Border Patrol thought I was insane in taking the Elise, but it can be done.

During the fall I drove to Skyline drive, drove the route and headed home. Was about 350-400 miles. Great drive! I plan to do the NC part in the spring which will be another few hundred miles tacked on.

I recently made a round trip from LA to Phoenix...400 miles each way.
My right ankle would get a bit stiff after about 200 miles of non-stop driving, but a quick stop and walk around took care of the that. I have made several long trips in the Lotus before and each time felt the car was quite comfortable for "touring" purposes. While the Lotus does not match the overall comfort of my DDs (Audi A6 and Allroad), I wouldn't think twice about driving anywhere long-distance in the Lotus.

8/26/2005: Driving car home from FVMC in Chicago -> Kansas City (with a stopover at Log25 in St. Louis). About 530 miles.
3 track days at MAM in Iowa (about 360 miles round trip). Daytrip at Lake of The Ozarks (about 260 miles round trip) back in 2006. That's about it.

Chicago to Devil's Tower, Wyoming (1,000+ miles) in 1 day.
Seat was surprisingly comfortable. I'd do it again. (And, yes, the aliens were calling...)

I've done a few long trips - ~800 miles in a day. My right leg always starts hurting badly from the driving position and lack of cruise control. Supporting my leg with a sweatshirt or something like that is a MUST.

~1600 miles from Norfolk, VA to Houston, TX. It took about 2 days and was absolutely amazing. I felt comfortable and so did my brother.

200+ miles from Fredericksburg, VA to Philly the day I bought the car. It was pouring rain the whole time, and I learned that the brakes aren't all that good when wet. Other than that no problems. I have the touring pack with AD07's and no issues with standing water. Actually the car was more stable than any other I've driven, through puddles anyway.

in my 05 Elise,
Phoenix to Wickenburg, to Prescott, to Jerome to Sedona then on to Flagstaff. 89A the whole way. 362miles there and back. Comfortable the whole way, and stayed in Sedona overnight before on to Flagstaff. Stock seats are fine, and had my girlfriend with the whole time. No complaints. I would say the lotus road better, and has better seats then my 04 STI.
