Remote Control Lotus Elise

I've seen a couple of posts in the past regarding Lotus remote control cars and thought I would share a source that I recently discovered. I bought a pre-built Lotus Elise remote control electric powered car for my 12 year old's birthday from Fordham Road Department Store on eBay:

eBay Store - Fordham Road Department eStore: R C Cars: DuraTrax 6-Cell 7.2V DTX3600 NiMH Stick Standard

This is the car I got:

RC 4x4 Electric 2000 Lotus Elise - eBay (item 170263223263 end time Jan-15-09 08:15:09 PST)

It's expensive ($229), but it's an awesome r/c car with a Champion 1/10 scale electric chassis (35 mph) and HPI body that he painted red for me. I asked the owner, William, if he could assemble the car, paint it and send it to me within 9 days so that I could give it to my boy on his birthday and he shipped it within 48 hours. After putting the stickers on it, it looks like an Elise and it goes like a bat out of heck.

Can you use this as a daily driver?

And is there any way I can modify this to go on my Traxxas T-Maxx?

That would be SAWEET!

...On second thought, would a monster truck Lotus be cool? Or have I just succumbed to the local redneck idea that BIG TIRES = GOOD ?

Note before you do it ....do the spraying on/to the INSIDE of the "windows". I know to some it might seem obvious - but you should see some of the "butcher jobs" I've seen attempted by those you would think otherwise would have known better!

So, just a friendly - "Tip"

There is a Lotus Shell due out, that would fit the Traxxas scale I think, sometime MY2009 in fact. My son Trevor (who posts on here) might actually know better. He is actually an RC "expert" and works for an area supplier/reseller/hobby shop that caries these and others ("E-Revo" or something like that, I think they are called). I'll point Trevor to the thread when he gets home from school, so maybe he can chime in.

We're on the look out for a shell (clear-shell exige so we can paint it to match my Club Racer) ourselves as well. I think the Elise shell may just even already exist. - Trevor?

Hi every one. The elise body is already out there but you have to see what scale truck it fits. Their are many different scales and diffrent brands. I have been trying to find one that will fit my hobby truck witch is a 1/10 scale truck. I'v seen the elise body in 1/10 but it still wont fit my truck because mine is a 1/10 scale monster truck. My last truck could do 70+ MPH. Here are a few pics of the truck I have now. Look at my home page it is the Traxxas web site. BTW electric is better then nitro!

I dont think the Elise body like what EliseSC has will fit the T-MAXX. It is 2 small. I dont think they have made one that will fit big trucks like ours.

2 sizes for the Elise body - 190mm & 200mm.

Typically 190 is for electric and 200 for gas. All considered 1/10 scale.

Well, at a glance, 1st-hand sight unseen, even the 200mm sizes look to me like they would require probably, some fairly creative/skilled, if not extensive exacto-knife work to be done on 'em, to fit over the large-wheeled Traxxas' and E-Revo's, no?

As Trevor points out (and he knows better than me) just by pure "scaling match" (ie: noting 1/10 for 1/10 chasis - Obviously) alone, does NOT equal necessarily, viable (or desirable) fit. In and of itself.

Do you know if wheel clearances are also acceptable, trying to put ANY of these shells, over a Traxxas monster truck, as-is?

I'v seen those before. They look like the would have fit my old truck that was 1/10 scale but dont think it will fit the one I have now. Even though my E REVO is also 1/10 scale it is still much bigger because it is a monster truck.

Trevor,

I assume you're not trying to cover the wheels/tires. A 190mm body should fit much like the truck body shown above. You may have to open up the wheel openings to accomodate the suspension travel.

You might try doing some research on the Tower site and get some chassis dimensions. The HPI bodies fit just about any RC road chassis.

Typical BODY-
Length: 17.5" (445mm)
Width: 7.5" (190mm)
Height: 5" (126mm)

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

I under stand what you are saying but still dont think it will fit. Because of the lenght of the shock towers. The shock towers on my truck are much farther apart then most 1/10 scale trucks. You can also look at this another way. The rustler(my old truck 1/10 scale) can not use a T-MAXX body because it is way to big for the truck. So you can not use a rustler body on a T-MAXX because it is to small. The trucks are the same scale but the specs are different. Also the length of my trucks body is 20 inches.

Trevor,

The dimensions you post help clarify your situation. Not much more to say than what the HPI body dimensions are versus your chassis. As said Scrumpot saying 1/10th scale is not enough.

Cheers,
Kiyoshi
